Thankful Sunday…

thankful

FOR:

  • My Health: I can walk.  I can run.  (Do I? No.  But I can.)
  • My Son: Despite a $300 bill for car repair after Friday night with friends. (“God Grant Me Patience”)
  • My Followers: Each Follower. Each “LIKE.” Each re-blog. Each Comment. This new community.
  • My Eyes: I can read.  Oh, do I love to read…with the ferocity of a dog on bone.
  • My Ears: I can hear.  This morning’s music. Sade. Baker. Krall.  Mayer.  All take me peacefully away.
  • My Dog: Tail wagging. Happy – always happy.
  • My Warm Days: And gentle April breezes.
  • My Peace: Finding inner peace. Setting aside anger, the rush, the chase. Set it aside pal. Do it. For today.

Break away for 1 hour, for one of life’s delights…

Before I left to work early this morning. I happened to flip through Steve Layman’s posts from the night before (a morning ritual).  I came across the slogan on the right which he titled “Small Pleasures Add Up.”  His post stuck with me all morning.

My daughter spent Easter weekend with us.  She was leaving today to go back to school. I had to work today.  I had the morning to reflect on her visit as my mind wandered during my meetings – – with Steve’s post lingering as a back drop.

She spent most of the weekend on her favorite couch in the living room.  Resting. Chatting.  Snacking. Texting.

We’ve all settled in like that comfortable old couch.  She’s grown up into a beautiful young woman.  Confident.  Thoughtful.  And, so full of promise.  It wasn’t lost on me that there may be few of these cherished moments left before she goes on to make her own life away from Mom and Dad.  How many Easter’s would we have left?

She’ll be done with her school year in just over a month.  She’d be back home soon.  And as I looked over at my calendar, the day was jammed with meetings after the long weekend.  I’ll just give her a call from the office and say good-bye.

NO.  Not again.  I couldn’t miss this opportunity to say goodbye.

I re-arranged my schedule.  I left work after lunch to get home.  To spend 1 hour with her before she left to catch her train.

She’s gone now.

My eyes well-up as I write this post.

And, I’m trying to think when an hour has meant more to me.

Safe journey Rachel.

Your Dad loves you.

Something sacred about…

“To me, there’s something sacred about reading a blog post on someone else’s site. It’s like visiting a friend’s house for a quick meal ‘round the breakfast table. It’s personal — you’re in their space, and the environment is uniquely suited for idea exchange and uninterrupted conversation. In many ways, we should be treating our blogs like our breakfast tables. Be welcoming & gracious when you host, and kind & respectful when visiting.”

He moved me…

One of my colleagues brought her 3-month boy into the office.  That’s not him on the left.  But equally handsome.

John is his name.

Quiet.

Peaceful.

He gently wrapped his hand around my finger…

Looked directly into my eyes.

Like he was telling me…everything will be okay.

And smiled.

Mystical moment.

Godspeed young man.

Godspeed.

I miss “Birdie”…

Erin (aka Birdie) is a Sun Conure.

It’s Erin’s 10th birthday.  (And Sunday mornings are for reflection and I’m reminiscing.)

LC, a former colleague, asked our family to watch her while her home was being renovated.

90 days came and went and somehow Birdie was adopted.

What a magnificent creature she was.

We were soul mates. (Laughing.  I could hear my kids now.  Dad, that’s WAY over the top.)  She would camp out on my shoulder and watch me do my work on the PC while she gnawed away at old sweat shirts.  (Must have been soothing for her as she worked through at least 10-15 shirts.)
