Athletes from Kenya have won more Olympic medals in middle and long distances than any other country…how do they do it?…no coaches are necessary…they thrive on teamwork and competition…genetic theories of dominance are rubbish…you can’t find any other place in the world like this…you have to be here to feel it…the mind is as important as physical talent…so what makes Kenyans the best? Perhaps it is the magic of these mountains.
*SMSI: Saturday Morning Workout Inspiration
Interesting. No mountains around where I live to motivate me to run, guess I will just have to walk……
At least it’s something. 🙂
Fascinating. I have always wondered about this phenomenon and thought maybe it had something to do with the altitude (though I wasn’t sure what, as you can obviously find this altitude in other locales…..) it’s amazing…whatever the answer. Thx for sharing this pal. Hope you have a great run today. Remember, mind over matter! 🙂
It is fascinating. And despite the Kenyan inspiration this morning, I couldn’t get more than 30 minutes inside on ellyptical. Could deal with heat…
And I suppose if I tried to follow this regimen, I’d have to give up chocolate? I’d have to give that serious consideration.
That’s right.
The magic of the mountains…PLUS, I didn’t see any chocolate on those dinner plates. 🙂
You’re like what’s-her-face on Biggest Loser – a broken record, screeching over and over. 🙂
Hahaha!! I don’t even watch that show and I think I still know who you’re talking about. Maybe she’s my sister, you never know. Better watch it. And, you know, I didn’t EVEN see a Hershey’s unsweetened baking chocolate bar on those dinner plates.
Yep. You are like a Dog on a Bone with my chocolate addiction. Oh, the joys of posting your life and bad habits on the internet.
🙂
Lots of mountains here…but not too sure if I want to compete with the Grizzlies (2 have been spotted by Nancy Greene). Enjoy your run!
Wow, grizzlies at Nancy Greene. Sounds like a tourist tale to me. 🙂
Not really…had an article in the news a few weeks ago about 2 young male grizzlies being returned to the wild about 40 km from Castlegar. Attached is the link for the story….. http://castlegarsource.com/news/photo-gallery-and-story-kootenay-grizzly-release-25332#.UesOeNLVB2A
Wow. Interesting. There weren’t grizzlies that far south in our day…
Maybe the simplicity of their lives, plus their dedication and commitment. Funny how those in developed countries are going to Kenya to find out their secret.
Yes, back to the basics….
Of course the roads are so d**m bad that even if you own a vehicle you can’t actually drive anywhere … running is the best option.
And I’m sure there’s a lot of truth in the bit about the ugali but I sincerely hope I NEVER have to eat it again. Like EVER.
I probably haven’t done Kenya Tourism any favours here … ; )
Laughing. And here’s the unvarnished “other opinion”… Ugali does look thick and sticky.
And it just SITS for hours in the stomach. I’m certain I couldn’t run after eating it.
Yummmm
i tried asking someone for butter and/or salt to give it some flavour – ANY flavour – and got really funny looks … it’s not SUPPOSED to have flavour …
