I can’t imagine sitting there and not feeling overpowered by the beauty, and over-awed at the splendor. Beam me up.
My backyard, Mimi. And I’m still overpowered and overwhelmed at the beauty every single time.

Better make that July or August – you might be sitting in snow at that spot in June 🙂
Ahhhh, yes…
Castle Mountain is one of my favourite views – worthy of a calendar photo. That’s where I first saw a picture of it (on a calendar), but in those very long ago days it was called Mt. Eisenhower. I was looking for it without success on the road map when we passed through that area a few years ago. That was when I found out that they had changed the name to Castle Mt. – I guess it was a burst of patriotism that sparked the change to get rid of the American name.By either name it’s still a fantastic, impressive mountain. I think the view you’re showing must be near the back, It’s not the aspect you get when you’re driving past it on the highway. Beautiful spot though.
Interesting history Anneli. Thanks for sharing. I have not visiting Castle Mountain aka Mt Eisenhower. On the list.
The first names for this mountain were no doubt given by the Stoney or Kootenay Native Americans. The name Castle Mountain was given to this peak by Dr. James Hector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hector), sometime in 1858. In 1946, to honor Eisenhower’s visit to Ottawa, Prime Minister Mackenzie-King renamed the mountain to Mount Eisenhower — much to the dismay of the locals. In 1979 it was renamed back to Castle Mountain, though the south tower still bares the name Eisenhower Peak or Eisenhower Tower.
Thanks for clearing that up. Very interesting. I didn’t know that Castle Mountain was its name that long ago. Very scenic mountain, unusual in its shape.
Marko, thanks so much for taking the time to share the history here. Most interesting.

Flattered that you shared my photo. Should you want advice on this hike, feel free to send me and email. June will still have a lot of snow. Late summer or early fall would be best.
Thank you Marko for the offer. It is an incredibly inspiring photo. All the best. Dave
