We’re opening Hump Day with a short two minute clip shared with me by Lori @ Donna & Diablo called The Future Is Ours.  “We truly live in a extraordinary time…we forget this.”  (Thank you Lori!)  And then on to my inspiring posts of the week…

Rob Firchau @ The Hammock Papers, a 5th grade teacher, who is a fountain of inspirational posts and profound shares including this Abraham Lincoln quote that I’d never heard before that he calls Teach: “…Teach (your son) him that for every enemy there is a friend…teach him if you can, that a dollar earned is of far more value than five found…Teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Let him learn early that bullies are easiest to lick. Teach him, if you can, the wonder of books…but also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside. In school, teach him it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat. Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong. Hope* the happy hugger (a mould maker, mould making instructor, potter and doll maker…but I’m still keeping my day job) with her post: We might never know… “Inspiring someone does not have to be a grand affair. When I was very young someone was very, very kind to me when I needed it the most. I will never forget that lady and I will never forget my gratitude in receiving that kindess. She taught me a lesson, she inspired me, something I will never forget, and that is to be kind, always and forever…”

  7. All were so good. The full Lincoln quote I found to be so relevant even today…..maybe more so. Lori’s video, excellent. All inspirational. Thank you! Of course the dog photo made me melt too.

  8. TED captures the essence of this movie. In the video it says “embrace your inner troublemaker”, which reminds me of the archetype Loki who through his mischief assisted in the formation of new possibilities.

      1. In many cultures there was a trickster archetype who acted as a culture hero on behalf of mankind against selfish gods, winning fire, crafts and skills by stealing them from the gods to give to mankind. The culture hero was often associated with fire, skills, wisdom. Loki was one such archetype, perhaps reflecting the human spirit of creativity and intelligence.

  9. Absolutely brilliant! Very inspiring post and video! I’ve watched it a few times! Particular love the part with the 29 year old hearing for the first time, that would make anyone tear up a little bit in happiness for her! Thanks!

  10. Thx for the shout-out, David! I loved the video as soon as I saw it and thought that it would resonate with you. (The passage with the 29-year-old hearing for the first time got me as well!) A wonderful grouping of inspiring posts and, of course, a fabulous dog photo. Uplifting all the way around–you’re very good at that, my friend. 🙂
