T.G.I.F. I want our summers…

…So be it. Maybe all this baking will quiet
the angry voices next door, if only

for a brief whiff. I want our summers

to always be like this—a kitchen wrecked with love,
a table overflowing with baked goods
warming the already warm air. After all the pots

are stacked, the goodies cooled, and all the counters
wiped clean—let us never be rescued from this mess.

  1. There is something so soothing about being in the kitchen, bowls and spices scattered about, the radio playing softly in the background, the dogs snoozing at my feet, hoping for the accidental drop. For me, the smell of garlic browning in butter can rectify most any situation. It brings me back to center and makes me feel cosseted in a way that few things can….

  2. I adore this post. I smell the comforting goodness and love oozing out from that kitchen. And immediately I start thinking of how much I love cooking for beloved people, not sweets but oniony, garlicky , herb-infused veggies…. about the joy when everybody at table eats happily – and my ❤️ opens with gratefulness and joy.

  3. Two beautiful writers I stumbled upon this week, Bell Hooks earlier this week. Been sitting in her company in 2 of her books. And now Aimee.
I think this is what the world needs now.
This is the side of reality I can handle.
Not stress, pandemic views, chip shortage and why the car I want to buy is not in stock, or the housing market bubble. All this puts me in the eye of a tornado where I’m still but everything around is going crazy.

This here puts my feet on the ground.
