Saturday Morning

My life is quiet.

There is little beside working and walking.

I have no desire to see people, and I feel as though I am waiting for something new and strange which will burn the unburnt side of my soul.

~ Kahlil Gibran, (1912) from “Beloved Prophet: The Love Letters of Kahlil Gibran and Mary Haskell, and Her Private Journal”

  1. “omething new and strange which will burn the unburnt side of my soul.”
    To be consumed…

I have an obsession with reading people’s letters. Started with finding my parents letters to each other before they got married. Yes, read them secretly.

    1. I know what you mean, Sawsan. How cool your parents kept their letters to each other for you to discover…

  2. I stopped at the same part of the passage as Sawsan: “…something new and strange which will burn the unburnt side of my soul.” In my case, I do desire to be with people.

    1. And oh, that feeling when it is.

The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire

      1. Reminds me of Rumi’s words,

“Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.”

  3. I’m a sucker for letters, although often I think I must be one of a very few (infinitesimally few) who is still writing….. This pairing sounds like a dream – those two – how I envy them, how I’d like to spy in their correspondence.
And I’m not surprised to find co-suckers in Sawsan and Dale…. We’re a dying-out sort!
Also, I like your pairing – just beautiful.
    Have a very good weekend.

Rumi and I tend to agree … ‘I have no desire to see people, and I feel as though I am waiting for something new and strange which will burn the unburnt side of my soul.’ … Kahlil Gibran, (1912) from “Beloved Prophet: The Love Letters of Kahlil Gibran and Mary Haskell, and Her Private Journal”

  5. Oh to live always in the unknown spaces of something new and strang setting my soul on fire!

I always appreciate, David, how your quotes open a gate to exploring ideas and feelings, thoughts and emotions, setting my creative essence on fire..
