Saturday Morning

She likes it best when everything is very, very quiet.

    1. so agree…

Had he remained standing there too briefly, chances are he would not have let the place get to him and consequently decided to devote his life to it. A few minutes, maybe. Long enough to hear the wind in the already wind-bent pines, the wind in his ears, the wind in his trouser legs, the pebbles under the soles of his shoes, his hand fiddling with coins in the pocket of his leather jacket, the oystercatcher’s shrill, Morse-like biik-biik-biik-biik. I picture my father turning to the cinematographer and saying: Listen to how quiet this place is.

          1. ah, daughter. i wondered when that comment about the father turning to the cinematographer came up and i put it together with the last name. what an interesting childhood that must have been.

    2. Anyone who has probed the inner life, who has sat in silence long enough to experience the stillness of the mind behind its apparent noise, is faced with a mystery. Apart from all the outer attractions of life in the world, there exists at the center of human consciousness something quite satisfying and beautiful in itself, a beauty without features. The mystery is not so much that these two dimensions exist – an outer world and the mystery of the inner world – but that we are suspended between them, as a space in which both worlds meet … as if the human being is the meeting point, the threshold between two worlds.

    3. Beth, just HOW EARLY is an early morning for you?! Only asking…. When I go to bed at 1am, early can be quite late for other people… Or when I haven’t slept (the rule….) early really feels early – and quiet I am then – but never ever as relaxed as this kitten 😉

  1. Slivers of silence in the delicate, pre-dawn hours or in the evening, as everyone settles in for the night. Delightful interstices that one must savor….

    1. Ray, I wondered too!!! But then I thought he did it for the cats’ lovers out there…. gotta be kind to ALL your readers! 😉

  2. Another long spell when I’ve not been able to look at blogs. I don’t understand the aversion, the disconnect. But today I *looked* and this picture pulled me in. Of course it did.

    Henry liked silence best, too.

  3. I think it is the first time I see a cat in your blog…. This is sooooo lovely 🙂 Thank you dear David, Love, nia
