Lightly Child, Lightly.

A poet is someone
Who can pour Light into a spoon,
Then raise it
To nourish
Your beautiful, parched holy mouth.

~ Hafiz, “Your Beautiful, Parched Holy Mouth” in I Heard God Laughing: Poems of Hope and Joy: Renderings of Hafiz (Penguin, 2006)

  1. And a Poetry lover
    is someone who’s parched mouth
    can’t be quenched.
The fire in their mouth can’t be put out.

      1. You know, Rumi wasn’t Rumi really until he met Hafiz. Their friendship was beautiful! It gave birth to most of their poetry.

          1. Apology! I take what I said back. It was his friendship with Shams of Tabriz, not Shams that is Hafiz.
