she was too tired to feel anything more,
she wanted a book to do to her what books did:
take away the world,
slide it aside for a little bit,
and let her please, please
just be somewhere and somebody else.

AND THAT IS WHAT BOOKS HELP US DO…STEP OUT OF OUR SHOES A WHILE!!

Long indeed!!
Certainly was…
We all need to “slide it away for a little bit at times.”
We do. And sometime more than a little bit. 🙂
that surely is…what books do. ☺
Ah yes, the magical powers that rest between the covers. Is there anything better than losing yourself in a book, Only to glance up as though emerging from a trance to realize that hours have passed in the turn of a page? Ohhh, this has got me all fired up for the holiday weekend, a beach chair and a book!! 😄
No. Nothing better Lori…
WLS – and included in this is the sacred time before sleep, when books gently take me outside of myself and into worlds and thoughts and even sometimes, slumber..;-)
WMS. WMS.
The most recent one for me: Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I am getting A God In Ruins by her next–I can’t get enough of her writing 🙂
I had a run of her books (4 in a row). May need to get back. She’s an incredible story teller.
Yesterday, the 30th was my birthday. I woke up tired. yesterday. I fell into bed at 8:58 pm last night and drifted off about 9:30, thankful for the air conditioning. This heatwave is uncomfortable and hard on the garden. 107 in Boise a few days back. I like what Lev Grossman “take away the world, slide it aside for a little bit,” –oh, I wish that was possible…being under anesthesia or medically induced coma might accomplish that…
Smiling. Still smiling.
The comfort of books. Isn’t it?
Magic, yes…
