To stand at the helm of your destiny. I want that, one more time. I want to be in the Piazza del Campo in Siena. To feel the surge as 10 racehorses go thundering by. I want another meal in Paris, at L’Ambroisie, at the Place des Vosges. I want another bottle of wine. And then another. I want the warmth of a woman and a cool set of sheets. One more night of jazz at the Vanguard. I want to stand on the summits and smoke Cubans and feel the sun on my face for as long as I can. Walk on the Wall again. Climb the Tower. Ride the River. Stare at the Frescos. I want to sit in the garden and read one more good book. Most of all I want to sleep. I want to sleep like I slept when I was a boy. Give me that, just one time…
OMG, I want that same thing too. I want to go home to Italy. I want to be in Sienna for the annual joisting. I want to be back in Paris, practicing my French at L’Ambroisie and drinking another bottle wine again. I want to be in Venice again, like I was every summer for holiday, as the Gondolier gentle paddled the gondola up and down each canal. I want my new (257 years old) apartment in Florence back, where I would sit in my garden terrace and study my Italian, cursing because my native Italian mother never taught us the language perfectly. But unlike this clip, I never want to sleep again. I just want to make more memories like the ones above and bee thankful for each and everyone.
Beautiful….
You know, I’ve never watched that show though I’ve always loved James Spader as a actor.
Me, too, also. This makes me think I’ve been missing something very special.
He is the star of this show. No one comes close.
It’s a great show, one of the very, very few I watch these days. And this quote is one of the reasons I’ll be going back to Italy later this year.
Yes, it is a great show. I’ve never travelled to Italy and would love to do so. Enjoy your trip!
My heart was in my throat as I listened to this clip. Like Carolann, I’ve never seen this show before (need to rectify that), but have always loved James Spader. Experiences, moments that we savor–good wine, a special meal, the sun on our face, a long conversation with a dear friend–these are the things that are truly priceless. (Geesh, I meant that sincerely, but I just realized I sound like a Visa commercial….sigh….)
Smiling…you are so much better than a Priceless Visa commercial!
I have always enjoyed Red’s philosophies…even if I don’t have his momentous memories…
Smiling…me too!
yes, to engage the senses and enjoy the offerings of the world is a gift.
And these words certainly do whisk you away…
