I am all for aha!! moments and other peak experiences,
but my most lasting transformation happened in the subtleties,
in those private moments of decision as to which path to walk.
In every moment, there is a choice:
Will I open, or close?
Will I take responsibility, or blame?
Will I download the learning, or deflect?
Will I go to my edge, or fall back to safety?
Will I honor my intuition, or listen to the world?
Thousands, millions of moments of decision that inform who we become.
Getting out of Unconscious Prison is a life-long journey.
True path is built with choices.
I choose authenticity.

Each choice becomes so momentous – as much as I agree with him (and truly appreciate much of what he writes and says) – I could also see how the mundane alternatives of our day, could become paralyzing were we to to consider the impact of each. For me, challenged learner that I am, I find my a ha moments rarely occur in the present. I realize what they portend afterwards. Go figure..
I do here you on the paralysis opportunity Mimi. I think what you suggest is real. Some days, and some decisions, best to let it flow…Terrific insight and observation (as usual)
Sadly, in today’s egotistical society so many people don’t care about the consequences of their choices. The rest of us can only try to live with integrity.
Yes, Emy, I squarely with you…
“Getting out of Unconscious Prison” Cripes! I LOVE that!
Me too. That’s the punch line.
it’s the only choice in the end.
Making choices, having an open mind with the aproprate mix of love, kindness, and desire to do what is good, brings satisfaction and a well rounded personnality and a better world to live in.
Great post – makes you stop and think and not just stumble through the day. Thanks David.
Thanks Bill. As always, a thoughtful, insightful comment.
“Will I go to my edge, or fall back to safety?
Will I honor my intuition, or listen to the world?”
Wow, wow, wow, million dollar questions, these. And I agree with Mimi, it’s often only in retrospection that we realize the impact of our choices. Great post, DK….
Love this too Lori. Big words and thoughts here…
I’m a believer that who we are, in the here and now, is a culmination of, an amalgamation of the choices we’ve made. There is so much in the world we cannot control, but how we react, or prepare, or what we choose to do with & about it is our superpower. That’s what we can do, make choices. The truly weak are usually not so of their own accord. Choices may have been taken from them, sapping their power and will. We take the ability to make choices for granted, every day. Appreciate them, even if you make bad ones.
Thanks for sharing this today, David.
Sean, I so agree with you. I realize that luck plays a significant part in it but certainly good choices can bend it in your direction.
Right now I’m having to decide whether to get up for another cup of coffee or to continue catching up with those of you whose blogs I read. Choices can be so difficult.
Smiling. Life is full of these tough decisions!
[…] Live & Learn is a new blog I’ve found since starting this course, and its creator gives us meaty food for thought today. […]
Authenticity…Is not a noun but a verb…It is a daily practice! Thank you!
Yes!
I’ve always believed that our lives are shaped by the choices we make every second of the day and night.
Me too Anneli. To hell with fate. Bend it.
I think the aha! moments only come because of those private moments of decision. Unconscious Prison–great description. Another book I read recently calls it living numb.
Yes. That’s the punch line: Unconscious Prison…
I really, really like this. Thanks for sharing, David.
Froze me in my tracks too Vicki. Thanks.
