Myth: I should wash my face in the morning.
Truth: Unless you have a skin condition, such as acne, you only need to wash your face once a day, in the evening. Nighttime cleansing removes, make-up, pollutants and other dirt that has collected on the skin. Washing twice a day can cause dryness, a particular concern as women and men age.
Hmmm. This is habitual. No. A Ritual. (Washing face many times.) And, how many times have I scolded our kids on the topic? Too many to count.

When the kids were teenagers I think this was part of my morning mantra – and I am pretty confident they listened to me half of the time. As a more than occasional peruser of fashion magazines though, I had heard this already. Old habits die hard though – I still have to wash my face in the morning – it’s as necessary as coffee and brushed teeth. Happy Thursday.

rituals are part of what comfort us and keep us feeling safe. it is no wonder we try to pass these rituals onto those we love, without regard to any pragmatic value they may have.

When I was little, my mom and told me I’d get holes in my face if I didn’t wash it. Only as I got older did I realize she meant acne. Does this mean I can cross my eyes without worry?

🙂 Holes in your face?! Wow, she was tough! Nope, crossing your eyes is still problematic. 🙂

YUK. The thought of not washing my face in the morning is ghastly. I rely on that splash of icy cold water, in addition to my 3 mugs of coffee, to move me along so that I can get to work at a reasonable hour. Hey, no one’s (except for Michael Jackson’s) bedding is sanitary. And, if you sleep with pets – well – you know. C’mon! I will not skip my morning wash. I was surprised – no, shocked – to find out that pores don’t open and close. That seems like an evolutionary mistake if you ask me.

How do I get rid of the morning star on my eyes, the mark of liquids that came out of our eyes, nose and mouth if I don’t wash my face?

It’s funny, I was just wondering about this. Now that I have more “mature”skin, a morning washing just seems like washing away the moisturizers that I put on the night before.

That’s right. So you save money by skipping the morning washing. There are just so many benefits. 🙂

Very interesting, I agree with a lot of those points! 🙂 I’ve had a lot of severe dry skin problems over the years, and it’s amazing what damage some of the things we put on our skin does, even water too hot! I discovered that eating lots of parsnips actually completely cured my dry skin problems. I still can’t quite get over accidentally finding a cure – so many nutrients in that little odd tasting vegetable, I must have been severely lacking for years!! And natural products are nearly always the kindest to the skin! 🙂

So true Suzy. I used the gritty face scrub for some time. The damage that caused! As to parsnips – not for me Friend. No parsnips, no turnips!
