The first time I was in Shanghai – before the huge economic appeal of investing there – the ride from the airport was treacherous because of bicycles, buses with burned-out windows and a relatively small passel of cars. The last time I was there (ten years later), the traffic was almost as bad as it is in Beijing. Obviously, not every rush hour is eleven days long, but I had never seen traffic like it before.

Must have been quite a sight, and push to get home quickly.

I don’t think there is any ‘get home quickly’ there at the moment. The roads just can’t accommodate what development hath wrought.

I thought they had a ‘one-child’ policy. Maybe they should have a ‘one-car’ policy.

I think they are well under 1-car policy. Sheer numbers overwhelming.

How bizarre – I discovered this picture only a few days ago on some Google search for something or another – HORRIFIC! 😯 How did they all cope with that, where did they go to the toilet, and what about water? I wonder if anyone died in that – I mean, eleven days, the world is getting quite crazy!! 😦
