Saturday Morning Work-Out Inspiration: Silence

You need to get through the first ~ 4 1/2 minutes to get to the punch line. And then, the punch line pops. And worth the wait.  The video is shot in Vancouver and Whistler Mountain. Headphones recommended.

“The world is filled with noise. Make room for silence.”

  1. The world is so loud, and the volume increases as the cacophony becomes more acute and insulting to one’s sensibilities. Yes. The comfort of silence – it allows one to hear the only sounds that really matter. The beating of one’s heart. The song of the morning. The richness of quiet. Love it. Good morning David.

  2. Potent David. I especially like the irony of the message on the bus, “Good Money can help you get to a better place.” Au contraire….feeding one’s soul, engaging oneself physically, spending time communing with nature, THAT will get you to a better place. Great video, pal. Have a lovely day…. 🙂

  3. I and 7 1/2 million other people live in south Florida. It’s a very noisy place with too few hideaways to enjoy peace and quiet. One would think that a trip to one of the nearby beaches would suffice but around here the beach is where the noise is the greatest. So, where do you go? I have found a couple places where you can hang out, run, eat, relax, whatever, in complete natural silence. You can hear yourself think. You can hear the multitude of birds calling, you can hear Mosquitos and insects flying around you. You can hear raindrops falling into the water that surrounds you. You can hear yourself think. Ok, so it is not as quiet as total silence but its a natural noise. A trip to the Everglades National park, research road is one of the quietest spots around. Another is about 10 miles west of US27 on county line road west of Andytown, Florida. Those two places are totally away from mechanical noises And off the flight path of the airlines. I’ve actually used special audio recorders to record the natural sounds in those locations with great success. Plus, they are beautiful. If you do visit those locations and encounter someone there, shut up! Be quiet! I’m listening to myself think.

    1. Sounds like you’ve landed in a wonderful place Jon-Mark. Good for you. Thanks for sharing. I too have been to Everglades National Park…it is in fact one of the quietest spots around. Have a good Sunday. Love your photographs in your most recent posts (and all your posts for that matter)

  4. Glad you tipped us off to the first several minutes…I know that part. But then…breath taking! So pleased to see your offering of a road less traveled. Outstanding. Dan

    1. Yes Dan. I was tapping my foot and my pencil wondering when the point was coming. Figured if I didn’t tip you and others off you’d give up on it.

  5. I feel very lucky not to live in a big city, and to be retired in a semi-rural place where I can still hear the birds sing. Wish everyone could enjoy that kind of peace.

  6. Yes, silence…I believe that it is only in silence that we truly see, when all of our senses become tuned to what really matters. I make room for silence in my own life…I’m lucky in that respect, I guess. The kids are grown, I work from home…mornings are silent here. Thanks for sharing that video David.
