Monday Morning Wake-Up Call

Thank God. People who take their coffee black are always so smug about it, you know? Marla this morning was like, Oh no, no, I don’t need things in my coffee. I like it just black, thanks. And it’s like, Well, I’m sorry, excuse me, but I happen to be a human being and I like sugar.

  1. There is something pretentious (or maybe just healthier) in going with straight java, no half and half or sugar. Or maybe those people just begin the day ahead of the curve, and they’re sweet enough. Color me snarky – I’ve got to put sugar in my coffee, and then seek redemption throughout the day

      1. Working on that Sawsan. Thank you for caring…😊

You may have just solved the problem for me because you mentioned maple syrup. Vermont claims to make the best maple syrup in the USA. So I have decided to choose to believe that there is a little bit of Vermont “in you”. 😊

I will give maple syrup (or maybe honey?) a try and see if it works for me. I suspect either of those two options would be fine.

        Have a great day!

PS: remember that camel photo from last Wednesday? It was another beautiful pic that immediately brought the word “majestic” front and center in my mind.

        1. Smiling…
Honey changes the taste of coffee and tea.
          Maple syrup doesn’t.

I am Canadian. Or, one of things I am is Canadian. They have great Maple Syrup too.

          1. Totally agree. Canadian maple syrup is awesome! Thanks for the tip about honey! I daydream about living in Canada sometimes. I love Montreal and Toronto. I have also been to Nova Scotia. It’s a wonderful country. Sometimes I daydream about living there and getting away from all the drama in the USA.

          2. Yo David… You’ve been gone too long… you’re sounding American…Since When is Nova Scotia a city?

          3. If you think you’re an ounce more Canadian than I am, something is seriously wrong with you.

        2. Paul, this is my favorite Maple Syrup & it is from Vermont!

          https://sapjack.com/shop/bourbon-aged-maple-syrup/

Give it a try on some homemade pancakes or a warm muffin of your choice, cut in half…on French Toast, too and come to think of it on hot gluten free Oatmeal…

( I have two unopened bottles, I’m saving for one of those cold, November mornings)

          It is Amazing!!!

PS Dave will want to try it <<< for sure. He likes my food recommendations…

I also do not consume alcohol, though this syrup has less than 1% so it is a background flavor from the old barrels…So yup, no coffee, no Alcohol….water, water with lemon, cold or hot tea & in the summer maybe twice I’ll have 2oz of juice…

  2. Lots of Girly Girl cream and lots of Girly Girl sugar, words of a beautiful artist and model I worked with in the past, Wanakee Pugh.

Maple syrup for me, and créme brulee flavored almond creamer.

I do not trust people who drink their coffee black, or those who set their texting to not show when read, or disappearing messages.

  3. Sugar has been left in my life by myself, but only about coffee, I can’t do this. Sugar and coffee… classifications, categorizations, and even health diets, etc. I don’t care about any of it, it’s my cup of pleasure.. Thank you, Love, nia

  4. And then there are those who take offense at every little thing and make a big deal out of someone being different (just to look at both sides of this), or who can’t handle it if someone makes a choice that is different from theirs, and would read more into it than was intended by the original comment of the black-coffee drinker. AND, did you notice there were four “likes” in that short bit? Now that’s something that like irks me because I’m like trying to wake up like with my coffee and like it just annoys me until I’m like gritting my teeth. Like, just saying….

    1. We had front loading washer & dryer when I was a little girl…my siblings and the neighbor kids would go to the basement and watch the laundry…one of the neighbor ladies said to my Mother, if you ever move I’ll buy your set…

    2. I’ve never had coffee…because when I was little my Mom would stir in a little cold coffee into the light chocolate frosting to thin it before spreading it on our graham cracker, treats…our frosting had a taste of what she said was mocha… I didn’t like it at all…though I loved that she loved us and made us treats… (My husband drinks coffee, daily…his last coffee maker died about 3 months ago so now he uses a French Press for his two mugs full…) His first French Press was a gift from my Mom 🙂

    3. I initially posted this in the incorrect area:

I’ve never had coffee… when I was little my Mom would stir in a little cold coffee into the light chocolate powered sugar frosting to thin it before spreading it on our graham cracker, treats…our frosting had a taste of what she said was m,ocha… I didn’t like it at all…though I loved that she loved us and made us treats… (My husband drinks coffee, daily…his last coffee maker died about 3 months ago so now he uses a French Press for his two mugs full…) His first French Press was a gift from my Mom 🙂

  5. Cinnamon & a splash of almond milk. In case you ever wanted to surprise me with a coffee one Cove morning….

    Happy Monday DK!

          1. There is something very wrong with the two of you. And you love shut down the Internet with all of your inane (note I spelled that out) comments!

          1. What do “they” say? And how would you know? You don’t talk to anyone.

      1. NO, I do not!
Except, apparently, I might not have immediately noticed the change in your blog’s appearance, which frankly, shocks the hell out of me. I usually see everything 😉

  6. We like it it the way we like it. Why do people have to act so imperialistic about a simple cup of coffee? I agree with Sawsan. FFS!! BTW, I like mine with sweet Italian cream and a hint of cinnamon, if you please.

  8. Did you wake up today and think to yourself, “hmmmm, it’s been too quiet. Let’s throw out a controversial issue out there?”
This is the worst since the bad cheese sandwich post

    1. I’m actually enjoying this thread Sawsan. Most people are keeping an open mind (I certainly am).

And I’m pleased to know that Kiki is an espresso woman. Seriously hard-core. 🙂

Take a few deep breaths and relax, my Internet friend. DK would never say this (I don’t think)… But you are loved here. 😊

    1. This wonderful thread prompted me to take a quick look at the book summary on Amazon. I have eclectic taste when it comes to books. I liked the summary. This might be a good “escape from reality at the end of summer” read. I’m putting it on my Audible wish list!
      Thanks, DK!
      Have a great one!

  9. i’m not picky about my coffee. i’ve been known to reheat a cup in the microwave after it sat overnight in my car’s cupholder. gross, right? as long as there’s not a dead bug floating (i do have limits!). my preferred way is with cream, but i think we’ve already established that i’m not picky. 😉

    1. oh brother, or rather, oh sister…. this is so not coffee – picky or not, your description lets me think of the ‚coffee‘ our doctorands made when I worked for a professor at our ETH (can‘t think of the E translation, an über-university in ZH) – they used to invite me and my mate because they knew that although we had a perfect coffee machine AND matching cups etc., we hardly ever had time to take a break. So, wehn, from time to time, I went down to ‚my boys‘, I saw what was sitting on the table and I usually burst out with something like ‚Oh, you kept the flower water again too long‘ because it resembled a coffee in absolutely nothing….. your comment made me smile (and purse my lips ever so slightly)!

    1. it says that you know your choices, nothing more! i once had an invitee who would have loved a coffee but since i had neither cream nor milk at hand, she had to renounce. the very same day I went out and bought those ‚indefinitely‘ dated coffee cream portions. She DID come back and was thankful for my attention to her needs…. 😉
