Walking. With M-G.

Head Cold. Nasal drip. Nagging cough. Light nausea. Friday the 13th. Feels about right.

6:10 am. Cove Island Park. 192 days. Consecutive, and getting long in the tooth.

45° F. Wind gusts up to 25 mph. Drizzle. Wet. Cold.

Cloud cover: 100%. Like a million %.

M-G: You’re dragging.

DK: It’s that obvious?

M-G: Snarky too.

M-G: COVID?

DK: Can’t be.

M-G: How’s that?

DK: Hood Brand Ice Cream Sandwiches.

M-G: Ice Cream Sandwiches?

DK: Yes. I’m up to 3 a day. I’ve haven’t lost my taste buds. In fact, right this second, I can taste the chocolate flavored wafers wrapped around the cool vanilla ice cream. I can taste that chocolate.  I’m already heading for my second just thinking about it.

M-G: Hmmmm.

DK: I think it’s time to head home. Not seeing anything inspiring today. Is this the best you can do?

M-G: (No comment. Eye brows raised)

M-G: Stegner.

DK: Stegner?

M-G: “Sit still and let the world do the moving.”

I don’t sit, but I stop.

Overhead, out of nowhere, hundreds of gulls.

A sky white with wings.

I grab the camera. And start snapping.

DK: Damn it! I don’t know how to capture things that move. It’s bloody frustrating. I know, I just know they are all out of focus.

M-G: Hmmmmm.

DK: Hmmmmm what?

M-G: Stegner.

DK: Hmmmmm.

Notes:

  • DK: Me. M-G: Maybe God.
  • Photo: DK, Cove Island Park, Stamford, CT. 6:15 and 6:45am (in full blur, not intentional, not conscious art). 45° F. Drizzle.

      1. Good grief, man…
So what if there were 25?
I have discovered to put it on “action” setting when trying to capture things that move, it takes multiple shots… one of them (or more) end up pretty darn good 😉 (It’s quicker to do that than find the multiple shot setting on my camer)

  1. Geesh, pal, if you keep up this pace, *you’ll* be a drumstick by Thanksgiving. I’m lovin’ my Mirror…just sayin’. 😉 And I’m lovin’ this photo and the way inspiration strikes when ya least expect it. Keep walkin’….

      1. I love it, I really do. Yesterday was a cardio and strength class, today was sculpting, tomorrow Barre. The variety is awesome and it’s super convenient to work out at home. Highly recommend. 😁👍

  2. 1. You need to get tested. Not losing your sense of taste doesn’t really mean anything.
    2. Where does Talenti fit in exactly? What happened?
    3. Ice cream sandwiches are life.
    4. Stegner 😉

  3. I kinda like that – only the MG = I don’t think of God as a maybe…. but that’s YOU and your mind working –
I don’t mind a ton of blurry gulls, and I’m sure no one minds!

  4. Tara Brach always says, ‘there’s nothing wrong with this moment’ only the stories in our mind think there is. Love this capture in motion 👏👏

  5. Ah, thats nice. So sublime. Only, not sublime. Its what I used to think sublime meant. I thought it meant an understated, hidden or occluded perfection. Is there a word for that?

          1. Its a variation of something I learned in writing my stories, for better or for worse…
“Sometimes the truest part of a story is the part I make up.”

    1. No. It is in my cue and can’t tell you why I am resisting. I can’t. Something is holding me back. Because I know that if you recommend it, I “need” to read it.

  6. I n c o n c e i v a b l e , No Talenti Mint Choc Chip…then I thought well he is branching out…and then I googled…not available in the sandwich though it is in the carton… Hood Brand “Mint Choc. Chip Ice Cream…just saying…I have a photo though I don’t know how to post it here…I also have a photo “Gorge” brand huckleberry ice cream cone with a place called Mt Hood as the backdrop… ps: Hood Brand makes a pumpkin ice cream I think it is in the sandwich form…ah, the Possibilities 🙂

  7. Nice snap! I have the hardest time photographing anything in the sky. You did well to have the static bush to ground the shot. Well done, esp as the blur conveys movement!
