Lightly child, lightly

It’s so delicate, the light.
And there’s so little of it. The dark
is huge.
Just delicate needles, the light,
in an endless night.
And it has such a long way to go
through such desolate space.

So let’s be gentle with it.
Cherish it.
So it will come again in the morning.
We hope.

  1. I love watching the sunrise on these dark winter mornings. It creeps up slowly, stealthily, then suddenly ‘Ahhhh! Sunlight streaming again,’ with a joyful abandon that makes one throw the head back and the arms open wide in gratitude for the gift of another day….

  2. Beautiful prose. I, sadly, am not greeting mornings with such gentle abandon…. it’s always far too early to get up and it’s so dark, I just wish I could stay under the cover and hide for another few hours. But needs must be met.
