John Lewis’ 2018 Christmas advertisement tells the story of Elton John being gifted a piano as a young boy. The story begins in present day and works backwards chronologically through Elton’s life and musical career, leading to the moment he received the special present of his grandmother’s piano that changed the course of his life. Thank you Lorne
The ripple effect of a gift, a word, and kindness cannot be measured.
So true
Makes me teary…..
So good. Agree Cindy.
Outstanding–thanks for sharing, David!
Hey Christian. It is. Thanks. Hope you are well.
I have always loved Elton’s music. It always mellowed me out. To know that he got his start because of a gift is even sweeter. Keep sharing, everyone.
Yes. Me too Claudia. Thanks.
That was a treat. Thanks.
It is. Thanks Anneli.
brilliant
That was absolutely wonderful! Just goes to show… he was given a gift, well more than one, when you think of it: the piano itself and the talent to play it so well; which in turn, became a gift to all of us.
Dale, so true…
So true.
Loved your share 🙂 If you are NYC this week hope you made it home safely with all the snow…
A few inches. You would think we were buried in three feet given the drama.
This is excellent!!! Thanks as always, David.
It is! Thanks Debra.
about 18 months ago we were at a small drop in blues jam, there was a little guy about 8 years old ( he kept inching his chair closer) so interested in watching the sax player, a kind and talented man I know…during the break Paul, got out one of his other saxs and has the boy hold it, talked with him and showed him how to finger it, showed him the mouth piece…the boy was mesmerized…after the boy went back to his parents I went up to Paul a man with such a big smile and I said that was so wonderful you taking time with that sweet boy, inspiring him, I said perhaps he’ll become a sax player, he said that what it’s all about giving time to the little ones so that they might want to experience exploring music and learning to play an instrument…He is such a giving person and I pray the battle he continues to bravely fight with cancer doesn’t overtake him…
Wonderful!
Im not crying…
😀
I’m not crying either. (not true)
😀
Elton is a brilliant performer and a boisterous cheerleader for quality popular music. But we should remember that he is half of a double act; without Bernie Taupin’s compelling lyrics, it is unlikely that he would have achieved this level of fame.
So true!
Have seen this already (a few times) as also the Guardian etc have commented on it (and honestly, mostly also because I’m a sucker for Xmas PR videos!) and absolutely adore their take. But then tell me if ANYBODY on this world doesn’t like Elton John…. maybe a few hard-core anti LBGTs but we mustn’t go there.
And even after the xth time watching this video I still have tears rolling down my cheeks – I’m sure I’ll be coming down with something…. 😉
so with YOU Kiki….(including a success for Xmas adverts)
Pass the Kleenex…I, too, am smitten by this ad. A simple, heartfelt gift can yield untold joy.
Awesome! We will be seeing this a lot on British TV.

Chistmas stuff already? It’s only November!
Also, getting a piano for Christmas is a heck of a start… possibly why I am a complete loser, no piano for Christmas see? I only had a pencil. It broke, no sharpener, had to wait for word processors to be invented, too late for me by then.
STILL LAUGHING!
Yes! Many messages right here.
Sure are…
you beat me to it; I love writing about the John Lewis commercials each year; this one is another classic. thanks for making me aware of it!
Thanks Jim. I’m a huge fan too.
