Sunday Morning

Junipers in the forests outside Warsaw.
I didn’t know that junipers like sand.
They stand, huddled, like secret, silent figures in hoods.
They walk behind us. I turn to look.
They stop in their tracks, like monks.

  1. The photo certainly conveys feeling. Not all that pleasant but rather cool and creepy. I don’t think I’d want to go for a walk in those woods. And it looks like the kind of place you wouldn’t want to enter without a compass.

  2. We looked at the photo and were we surprised…So interesting how junipers grow in another part of the world. Those look so spindly. Over the mountain from us there are 1,000 year old Junipers and they are big, they also like volcanic soil…I’ve seen gnarled juniper logs used in architecture for support poles and they are so beautiful…in some areas of our state Juniper’s are considered invasive as they suck much water from the dessert landscape, water that is needed to keep “springs” bubbling. I like the smell of juniper and juniper and its berries are so pretty on our Christmas Wreath…Juniper berries are used in Herbal Medicine… /// We had a very sweet cat, “Juneapurr” who passed on,while in my arms…

  3. Have to agree… not the friendliest looking woods, is it? But oh… juniper berries do add great flavouring to many things as well as gin… 😉
