  1. Maybe they don’t occupy their brain cells with worry as much. Then again, maybe the quote is bullshit! I vote the later. ;>)

  2. Maybe it is because many of those “really, really smart” people are tenured research professors who have jobs at universities and think tanks. These positions are subsidized by taxpapyers and they get come in whenever they want to monitor their young, research assistants. Thus maybe the statistic is a “result”, not a “cause”. (PS. . . I’m really not an angry man, it’s just early)

  3. i would tend to disagree, but then they are the ones still sleeping aren’t they, while i am up early questioning their brainpower?

  4. I think their statistics are questionable..what about the wild card sleeper who squeezes in a nap or the undocumented cat napping, chair nodder? Always, exceptions… 🙂

  5. In have also read the bright folks require less sleep. Perhaps they stay up later and as a result sleep later. It did not say sleep longer.

      1. For once, your analysis is not spot on, David. And consequently, you’re drawing wrong conclusions. There was no extrapolation from age 20ish to age 50ish. But it gets worse. Why an earth would you think you’re an average, in-the-middle-of-the-pack person?

  6. OMG DAVID I AM ALWAYS TRYING TO GET YOU TO GET MORE SLEEP! (i.e. Yoga Nidra). Ha ha ha – imagine if you were well rested!!!! 🙂

  7. Being a night owl myself, I was feeling quite pleased until I got to the bit about having less sleep makes you less healthy, and I’m pretty certain that is true. 🙁 It would be nice to have the best of both worlds, early to sleep – and stay asleep – early to rise = bright and perky, ready to go, great intelligence!! 😀
