Joy is a meeting place, of deep intentionality and of self forgetting, the bodily alchemy of what lies inside us in communion with what formally seemed outside, but is now neither, but become a living frontier, a voice speaking between us and the world: dance, laughter, affection, skin touching skin, singing in the car, music in the kitchen, the quiet irreplaceable and companionable presence of a daughter: the sheer intoxicating beauty of the world inhabited as an edge between what we previously thought was us and what we thought was other than us.

Yes…I know that feeling well…and now I’m experiencing the quiet irreplaceable and companionable presence of a precious and beautiful granddaughter. Happy Birthday to your daughter…I know the place she holds in your heart. Life is something isn’t it? When it fills us with so much love.
Awwww, so true Carol. Btw, you must have had your daughter when you were young. Being a Grand mom at 35 is amazing!
Yes, happy birthday to your daughter David!
There’s nothing like the special bond between father and daughter, especially for those of us who are blessed with deep bonding, as I am with my dad. I don’t know when it got so good, but at 55 and 82, 3,000 miles apart, we are closer than at any previous time in our lives.
Thank you Debra. So glad to learn of your relationship with your Dad.
Happy Birthday to your daughter. My daughter is always a magic gift.
Thank you. She is magic…

I have daughters … amen.
🙂 Thanks John.
As a father to a 3 (almost 4, she often reminds me) I understand completely. I try my best to cherish every moment, every laugh, every tear. Thank you for the post and may her birthday be the bomb!
Thank you. 3 to 13 to 23 is an eyeblink. Enjoy it all!
The same could be said about a grandchild…in my case, a grandson. There is something magical, special, remarkable about a relationship like this. We are blessed!
Yes Claudia. So true!

beautiful and touching.
Agree Vicki….
This is absolutely beautiful–not just the daughter stuff, but the blurring of self, losing the sense of our edge in the presence of wonder.
It is Sandy. All of it.
I can totally relate, being a mom with a lovely daughter and having an awesome relationship with my Dad, who by the way celebrated his 80th birthday on July 10th.
“Belated Happy Birthday Rachel”
Thanks Bim!
