Thank you Maureen at Magnolia Beginnings for presenting me with The Booker Award. It’s a tall order to list my top 5 books of all time (so I’m giving you 11). And, I’ve excluded “self-help”, “business” and “autobiographies” from this list. Here we go:

Ohhhhh, CONGRATS David, and thank you for an intriguing list! I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t read a one of these (!), but that will soon change, ’cause if they made your list, they warrant examination! 🙂
Thanks Lori. I had a difficult time with the list. Maureen passed along this award a while ago and I stewed about it for a while. Not an easy task!
I know! Mimi passed this award to me recently, And I, too, have been perserverating about the list. I will get to it soon, though, as I love seeing what others are reading. Have a great weekend!
Oh geesh, now I feel so inadequate..your list is truly awesome. I haven’t read them all, but I have read some and they were fantastic. I knew you would have outstanding recommendations – and you do!
Thank you Mimi. How does one begin to pick a short list of 5 or 10 or 15. There are so many. And, what resonated at one time of your life, doesn’t later on…
It’s so true..and there are some books that still transport me – though in a much different way than they did when I was younger..
Love the list and thanks for the nod. 🙂
Great list David and thanks for the award. I am a huge Saramego fan so there is a good chance one of his books will end up on my list when I figure out how to narrow it down!
Me too Laurie (Saramago fan). I’ve read most of his books. They can definitely be a slog if you are new to his style but his imagery is something special.
Great list, David. Very thoughtful and such wonderful books. I keep thinking of all of the books I should have included. There are just too many. Thanks for letting us peek at your book shelf.
Thanks Maureen. Appreciate your thoughtfulness for the nomination. Dave
Your posts are always somewhat humbling, Dave! I’m with Lori here – I haven’t read one of these – although Confederacy of Dunces has been on my list of books-to-read for years. Maybe now I’ll get to it.
Confederacy of Dunces, Missing Links and Straight Man are on my short list of funniest books. Loved them.
Congratulations David, I cannot say I have read any of these but will check them out. Have a wonderful Saturday!
Thanks Tina. You too.
[…] David Kanigan has kindly nominated me for the Booker Award. This means I am to list five of my favourite books and enlist five to ten bloggers to do the same. It’s a bit like a chain letter (which I don’t normally do), but it’s a wonderful way to find out what people consider good reading, and a way to build up my own reading list. […]
Congrats, David! And thanks for sharing your list of favorite books.
Thanks Greg.
David – thanks for the nomination. This award works for everyone to help us find new books to read. I love it. I will add my list and will explore other lists folks post.

Thanks Michael. And I look forward to exploring your list.

Congratulations dear David. This is wonderful post. Makes me excited always “books…” The photograph is so beautiful, I loved it too. In your list, I read “The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck” and also I know ” Jose Saramago” but with his book “The Gospel According to Jesus Christ”… Thank you I noted all your book names, love, nia
Thanks Nia. I think I have read all of Saramago’s books by that one. I’ll need to check it out. Thanks for pointing me to it.

Would the list be different now?
It’s been 4 year 🙂
Sadly no. The sound bites of internet feeds have largely replaced my book reading. 😞
