Sunday Morning: The Last Ice Merchant

The Last Ice Merchant (El Último Hielero) from Sandy Patch on Vimeo.

This is an award winning short film.  And deservedly so.  It is long but worthy.  A wonderful story of the life of Baltazar Ushca, who for more than 50 years has harvested the glacial ice of Ecuador’s Mount Chimborazo to make a living.  Beautiful cinematography.   Charles Kuralt-like clip.

Good Sunday morning.

Good Wednesday morning.  Here’s my selections for the inspiring posts of the week:

Alex Jones @ The Liberated Way with his post titled The Little ButterflyAn hour ago an Admiral butterfly emerged out of nowhere fluttering about my head.  In this cold season it is amazing to come across a butterfly let alone in my own home.  In wonder I blinked at this amazing beautiful creature fluttering around the light, apparently it must have been hibernating and had awoken…Read more at this link.

New blood.  John Zimmer @ Manner of Speaking with his post: A Truly Heroic Speech.  Six year-old Benjamin Wheeler was one of the victims of the 14 December 2012 shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. More new blood.  Let’s hear it for candor and a few laughs.  Lily Reed @ We All Shine On with her post “Failure“…The past two days, I’ve seen the internet full of FAILURE talk. I don’t mean cutesy memes…Hang on. Failure means that you LEARNED something, right? I mean, if you look at something and say, ‘Wow, that was @#$%%^ up!’ What was your next step? I’m thinking you inhaled. BAM! Another chance.  Read more at this linkAnd, if you liked this, be sure to check out Now I’m Complaining and Almost 4, Bobby’s Learning How to Ride.

4:45am. And, Inspired…

Good Wednesday morning.  Two missions today: sharing inspiring posts of the week from my favorite bloggers and blogger award nominations.

Mindful Diary with her post “Random Act Of Kindness.” “…in the middle of eating and making pancakes, my 4-year old son says, mummy let’s give some pancakes with strawberry jam to Sonja (our 86-year-old neighbor)

Blurb My Enthusiasm with her post “Don’t Should on Yourself“” “…I really should have done my laundry yesterday, but I didn’t. I also should have gotten my MBA, eaten healthier in the last few weeks, and put the kiddie pool away before it left a big, brown circle on my lawn. I should have done a lot of things in the past 20+ years, but I didn’t. I also have a lot of regrets and guilt, the results of a lifetime of ‘should haves.’ What is it with this word ‘should’ that makes us all so miserable?

MindfulStew with his post “Striving for Balance–Enforcing Work Boundaries”  “…There are thousands and thousands of people out there leading lives of quiet screaming desperation where they work long, hard hours at jobs they hate, to enable them to buy things that they need to impress people they don’t like…”

And now, on to the awards nominations…

Renplus with her post “Stop Pushing Me.” “the journey of 12,000 steps starts with the first one. I believe I’ve just taken it…”

Peter Cook @ TheRock’n’BusinessBlogger” with his post “I get knocked down, but I get up again.” “…The differentiator between these two poles (living in regret / reflection / rumination versus crashing on through life regardless) is the ability to learn from setbacks.  Not so much ‘Shut Up, Move On’…but ‘Stop, Learn, Adapt, Move On’…”

Hemouse with her post “Thirteen Reasons To Be Happy.”  “…Thanks to my nose…it makes me breathe fresh air…Thanks to my eyes, and then small again squint, I can be seen sunrise, sunset, flowers, flowers bloom…”

Good Wednesday morning.  Two missions today: sharing inspiring posts of the week from several of my favorite bloggers and blogger award nominations.

In the bucket of put-your-mind-to-it-and-get-R-dun is Lesley Carter @ Bucket List Publications with her post “I Knew I Was Going To Succeed! Creating a Success Blog.” “…When I first started Bucket List Publications a year ago, I knew that it was going to be a success! I am driven; I am passionate; I am a dreamer and I do everything in my power to make those dreams come true. Life is worth living, after all, and I’m making it happen…When I started blogging, I heard people say that it would be impossible to break into the field and be a success. Why would I even waste my time? Why would I want to be another “blogger”? Well this is what I have to say to all of those skeptics. 8,432,439 views speak for themselves! 36,111 followers agree! (Read on for more)

Keith @ Keith The Green’s Blog with his post titled: Lighten Up, A New Beginning. “I wrote about making one change per month in our lives a little while ago, as we need time to make changes in our routines permanent. Since I started that one, I recently added being observant about the people I pass on the streets, if they look lost, I will ask if they need directions. A few have been tourists, another was an elderly gentleman who it turned out was looking for an address that was part of a larger building, he was having trouble as he had forgotten his glasses that morning. My point is that not all our acts have to be ones that change society, for the people we help, it has made a difference, now imagine if everyone did one more act of kindness everyday. To borrow a line from a Ray Charles song; “What a wonderful world it would be.”

Another wonderfully crafted and stop-and-make-me-think post by Jeff @ A View From the Ledge with his postDigging In”: “…Writing and weeding are not that much different. There are times we swing the blade widely cutting with a force bordering on violence – and there are other times when we work surgically with a finer tool carefully extracting the word or the phrase without disturbing the surrounding growth. There are other times when the weed is so entangled, that we have to take bits of the healthy plant with it…

Anita Mac @ TravelDestinationBucketList with her post “On the Road Again” – Anita is doing something that I’ve dreamed of doing…”SHE’S WALKING THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO.”

And now, on to the awards nominations…

Good Wednesday morning.  Two missions today: sharing inspiring posts of the week from several of my favorite bloggers and blogger award nominations.

In the category of just so-very-good, is a post from Thomas Ross @ “Only Here Only Nowwith his post titled: Affliction.“The worst thing, the most terrible thing, was to see the reflection of my critical gaze in the people I love the most- to understand how I had fed their self doubt all those years.   How I had harmed those I loved so deeply…”

In the bucket of yanking on my heart strings, Ray Visotski @ Simple, Village Undertaker with his postButterfly Kisses”: I remember Kelliann playing it for me for the first time when the song was a hit. We decided that it would be the song we danced to at her wedding…It may or may not be the first song, as I cannot listen to it without sobbing…)  Me too Ray.  Me too…

In the bucket of growth and re-birth, Brenna Gee @ Space2Live with her post title Steven Tyler and an Introvert: Expanding Through Music, Stillness and the Inner Garden:(Steven Tyler) Just recently my dad came over to the house – he’s ninety-three now!  And I sat down next to him at the piano and he played Debussy’s Clair de Lune…  It was so deep and invoked so much of that early emotion laid on top of my adult emotions that I wept like a baby…(and then Brenna)…As for me, I went through a withdrawal process that started with caring for my body…”

Thank you Glenn Weissel for nominating me for the Sunshine Award.  Thank you for Cristi Moise @ Simple. Interesting., ForOnePlease and Ivon Prefontaine @ Teacher As Transformer for nominating me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I’m humbled by your nominations.

As to seven facts about me: (1) I’ve never been to Paris. New Zealand.  Or Australia. (2) I’m the breadwinner in our family but have absolutely no clout. (3) I have insomnia (like now). The excuse tonight, Zeke crowded me out of bed. (4) We’re empty nesters in less than 3 weeks. (sigh) (5) I’m afraid of heights yet have no fear of flying. (6) I’m a sap with babies and animals (not fish so much). (7) I relish Saturday afternoon naps (and Sunday afternoon naps for that matter). (Bonus Fact) I’m a lucky man in so many ways.  Too many too count.  And I’m grateful for it all.

In return, I’d like to nominate the following bloggers for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award:

To accept the award, the rules are:

  1. Link back to the person who nominated you
  2. Post the award image to your page.  (Here’s the Link)
