Two years later, alien-like sea creature gains Internet stardom
…Among the more bizarre-looking visitors to California waters this summer are Mola molas, or ocean sunfish, which are being seen in unusually high numbers. But it’s a stunning photograph of one of these gentle giants that appears to be getting the most attention…The sunfish can measure 14 feet and weigh as much as 5,000 pounds. They’re found in tropical and temperate oceans. With their large bodies, truncated tails, tiny mouths, and huge eyes, they look like something not entirely whole and not of this world…
Thank you Eric for sharing this with your Dad.

Wowie!
Be encouraged!
Laughing. Exactly.
That is impressive!
Isn’t she!
Wow…seems like a gentle giant though. 🙂
Yes. Very much so.
Sheesh, didn’t know things like this existed.
Me too. Never heard of it before.
This is real? Really? Wow…I’m glad there’s more than one, otherwise this big guy/gal would be very lonely. Even under the sea, I think this fish would find it tricky to attract another…
As they say, there are many fish in the sea. 🙂
One from my grandmother – “an owl to one is a nightingale to another”…and “for every pot there’s a lid”…Now I just have to figure out how to make those relevant to ocean life.
Heard the pot and lid one. Never the owl and nightingale – like it and think it is more elegant and applicable to the big sunfish lady up there.
Call me crazy but I think it’s kind of cute. Maybe if I were swimming with it I might feel differently.
She is cute…and looks gentle and friendly.
The great mysteries of the sea.
Yes, a large mystery
Holy smokes that’s a strange looking beast! It’s skin looks so inviting though–bet it’s like gossamer…
Had to look up gossamer – but yes, I agree, looks like a gossamer. 🙂
See, both of us learned something. I now know that there are Molas lurking beneath the water’s surface, and you know about gossamer. 🙂
What a weird creature, and soooo HUGE.
Yes, LARGE.
Never knew these existed. Looks awesome to dive with.
I didn’t either Alex. And I agree.
