I wonder how long I would last in this hotel room

Solitude, Mobile Hotel Room, Andalsnes, Norway

“As soon as we are alone…inner chaos opens up in us. This chaos can be so disturbing and so confusing that we can hardly wait to get busy again. Entering a private room and shutting the door, therefore, does not mean that we immediately shut out all our inner doubts, anxieties, fears, bad memories, unresolved conflicts, angry feelings and impulsive desires. On the contrary, when we have removed our outer distraction, we often find that our inner distraction manifest themselves to us in full force. We often use the outer distractions to shield ourselves from the interior noises. This makes the discipline of solitude all the more important.”

  1. Longer than many, I suspect, David. As long as you had something to write with. Introverts would surely do better than Extraverts, for a start!

  2. mimijk says:

This resonates with me…there’s an awful lot of noise in my head when I strip away all the exterior stuff and sit in quiet. Clearly I need to learn yoga…
In terms of the room above? I wouldn’t last unless the door was kept open. :-)

i love it, i want that in my back garden right now it would be perfect, i always wanted my own private little island too right from when i was young i used to say when i won the lottery i want my own island oh the peace and quiet would be heavenly :) course i would have my kids and dogs with us but that would be excellent because then i would have a paradise of my own with my fave people :) thank you for sharing i may have to print this out and have it on my wall to inspire me :) i hope you have a great day xx

  4. Alex Jones says:

I would love such a hotel room :-)

  5. Ah, what a wonderful place…

  6. adinparadise says:

Such beautiful surroundings, but I do love my creature comforts, so I’d last maybe an hour or two. :)

  7. Wow … what a view. The location definitely calls for solitude and inner contemplation. Something slightly more nerve-wracking than the fact there isn’t room for a dishwasher in there!

  8. Thomas Ross says:

I want to be there. Right now.

  9. lkanigan says:

Reminds me a little of being back home. But do believe your camping days are over. You would need to pack to many chargers and treats to make it…Lol.

  10. I keep looking for the kayak or rowboat! A couple of days there would be heavenly, but like Mimi said, leave the door open…

  11. Well, if I had my computer and ereader, maybe for a day …

  12. David, hardy Canadians would survive. We only need a fishing rod and sleeping bags.

  13. Sonia says:

Well not a bad choice. If I have my things with me I believe I will enjoy it (up to the extent of my patience level) after that I might run away :p I am up for it.

  14. So now I know what to blame for my occasional burning desire for solitude; it’s my Norwegian genes. I have an excuse, at long last :-)
