They’re back…

Atlantic Brant’s are back for a pit stop before heading north. More pictures from this morning’s walk here.

If you’ve never heard the call of an Atlantic Brant, listen here. “The Atlantic brant makes a low, guttural ruk-ruk sound, and its call pattern is flat, rising, and undulating. Brant also make a guttural crrrronk when flying or on the ground, and a shorter, sharper cruk alarm call. (via Google)”

  1. Wonderful photos Dave.
As always, thanks for sharing the beauty!

Meanwhile… Approximately 350 miles north of you near the Canadian border… the current temperature is 19° with a windchill of 11°. And the national weather service has issued the following wonderful news:

“Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories in Effect

A storm system will bring widespread heavy snow to the area tonight into Saturday night. Northern/central VT and northern NY will receive 8 to 18 inches of snow, while the St Lawrence Valley will get 5 to 8 inches.”

Mother nature never ceases to amaze, inspire, and annoy… 🙂

  2. We have huge flogs of brant geese here as well in our marshes, flogs of several thousand birds. We love it when the fly over our house.

      1. Dear David

we live in one of the oldest and biggest bird sancturies in the UK. Birds from the Arctic overwinter here and some stay even. We have sometimes flogs of up to 25.000 of grey and pink foot geese. Now most of these geese are gone.

        Happy weekend

  3. Their sound is really very cute…as are their little butts when they go looking for fish (or whatever) in the pond. I wonder if that’s where the phrase ‘bottoms up’ comes from…🥴

  4. What a delightfully noisy bunch they are! And ta for the video link – nice too….. We spend our weekend in a special place too, high above a beautiful and large lake. But the WIND! A killer, and the weather changes every 5 minutes. Lost already an umbrella in the rain-wind competition. And so beautiful!
