Hello everyone. Wally here. Mom, Dad and I went for a walk to Cove Island Park this morning. You heard right, Mom & Dad & Wally. No shortage of tension here, with 2 opposite poles of the magnet pulling, and pulling mostly on me. Dad walks fast. Mom meanders. Dad doesn’t talk, NO talking. Mom chatters (and chatters). Dad walks off-road on rocks and beach. Mom sticks to path, paved paths only. Dad lets me run off leash. Mom chains me down and won’t let me get more than 3 feet from her. So, do you get the picture? Walks with dad are so great! And side note, this morning, after mom strapped the leash on me, I heard Dad grumbling lyrics to “Free Bird” (Lynyrd Skynyrd): “For I must be traveling on now ‘Cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see…Lord knows, I can’t change…Lord help me, I can’t change…Lord, I can’t change…Won’t you fly high, free bird, yeah.” Free Bird! Free Wally!
Great song from younger rebellious times.
sure is!
I writing my Blogger Highlight on you next Monday.
what a killer post. I can just see wally and the two of you fighting it off. you forgot to mention that susan would also have to stop frequently to take photos! i’m halfway with both of you, not walking on the paved ways but definitely meandering and frequently stopping and just staring into the early morning beauty. no wonder wally is confused…. i see dilemmas galore!
never ever heard of that band nor of that song – but enjoyed listening to them. Those masses of HAIR flowing in the breeze. thanks for the smiles and ‘head up’ for wally. it’s not easy to be mom’s and dad’s favourite pet 🙂
So true Kiki! So many dilemmas and thickets.
Wally understands the good cop bad cop approach
So smart.
Wally’s go-to anthem – as long as he can see that his mom isn’t too far way…😉
TRUTH!
This is why we take the dogs on separate walks. Our ideas about walking are entirely different. The dogs don’t care. They get twice as many walks!
And that’s what we do typically too for exactly the same reason!
Wally makes a good point and I see why he prefers dad. LOL
Dad’s #1 Belladonna!!!!!
LOL! For sure
Don’t even get me started….
It’s funny. I would have thought Dad would be a worrywart when it comes to you, Wally.
Dad is amazing Dale!
As is Mom – in a totally different way 🙂
Awww Dale. Said like a beautiful Canadian.
🥰
Pssssst! Wally… I wrote this on Facebook, but I will repeat it here: This might be a good night to wrap Mom up in hockey tape! Perhaps not, however… Perhaps you love both types of walks… Just not at the same time! 🙂
Oh Paul. I’ll let you raise that with Dad!
Not a chance, Wally! I can’t get involved… Too dangerous! My advice is that you do what makes you feel “free!“
PS: LOVE THAT SONG!
HAVE IT IN MY PLAYLIST!
If we had the ability to “time travel“, I would be very happy to rewind the clock and live in 1977 (the date of the video). Those were some of the best years of my life, though sadly I did not realize it at the time, since I had absolutely no understanding of the concept of “living in the present moment“. (And I still rarely succeed at executing this amazing concept!)
So I will make a toast to “many more happy times!“
PS: upon further reflection, I remember many challenges back in those days… They were just different challenges than I have today 🙂
Life is good!
Still laughing.
We never realize it at the time!!!!
Poor Wally. I suppose he’d get in less trouble with Mom.
Nice to have walking partners who love you experiencing the Cove with you in the early morning…assume just a little later than your regular time? /// on to the Lynyrd Skynyrd video…such a classic time capsule!!! Enjoyed watching it…I thought about how I was a 115lb beautiful, teenager once who love going on dates to amazing concerts!!! I also thought that those in attendance are all 60 -75 + in age now…
I know. How time flies!
Wally, I want you to start treating dad like cats treat their human friends.
It’s a learning to be together and for everyone to enjoy! Sound like your Dad needs to keep some days for himself and open up to a bit of sharing. And you need to embrace the wind and independence calling you 💐🙏😎
Hmmmmmmm. I check with Dad Val!
Oh my! Memories! The benefit of being “older” is the long reel of wonderful life experiences. I would think that no one here would know of Lynyrd Skynyrd and this unforgettable “Free Bird”! Part of my experiences of this song were experienced with my loved one late, late at night. That intense whine of the guitars and Lynyrd’s voice (he did not have a long life!) make me cry, but also remember wonderful highs. Thanks for offering the audio video version.
What a perfect theme song for a man who feels his love of freedom…and a dog…any dog…or child… Oh if Wally could appreciate music (maybe he does?).
I will send the lyrics to a dear friend about to have her second shoulder surgery at 2:15! She’s a birder, and was saying she’ll be like Flaco, the owl who just left Central Park for the Village. Like most of my friends around my age, she probably knows nothing about Skynyrd–will have to ask the younger ones…and my kids.
Loved your update Valerie. And I’ve been following the wild adventures of Flaco!
Ha ha. So well sublimated!
