With what stillness at last
you appear in the valley
your first sunlight reaching down
to touch the tips of a few
high leaves that do not stir
as though they had not noticed
and did not know you at all
then the voice of a dove calls
from far away in itself
to the hush of the morning…

ease in
a welcome awakening
it is…
Have always loved Merwin…for me, his words shimmer.
They do….
“Sitting over words very late I have heard a kind of whispered sighing not far like a night wind in pines or like the sea in the dark the echo of everything that has ever been spoken still spinning its one syllable between the earth and silence.
~W. S. Merwin, The Rain in the trees.
He’s special. And this makes me miss open windows. It smells like an early one this year.
Merwin. Magic.
Beautiful.
Oh, to be able to express one’s self like this…
Oh, so me too.
At least we get to enjoy those who do have this gift…
Yes.
“…the voice of a dove calls…” or a dog barks because of readiness to morning-start that uncompromising dog-day of love. 😬R.
Awwww
Beautiful. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have poets for neighbors? How would we know? Benches on every lawn? 🙂
Ha. Maybe. You’re right.
Ah, so sweet, that sunrise photograph and Merwin.
Yes.
Love the photo and W. S. Merwin’s words…ty for the intro /// “then the voice of a dove calls” I love hearing the morning doves” a bit too early to hear them…soon they will return…though I keep thinking we have some in our attic…I call my dear hubby into the bathroom to listen to a cooing that travels in through the fan, he has yet to hear what I hear…I went out early when the light greeted the day…about 1/2 hour later the fog rolled in, laying down its robe upon me and the harder frost…thankfully an hour later the sun broke through…gifting us with bright light & warm kisses…the cats are stretched out sunning in the garden…
Love the close.
For me it is Sunday morning and warm going on hot
Hmmmm
Beautiful 🙏🏻
It is….
