The first week of August

fans-summer-gif-august-hot

The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses on its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.

  1. Here, on the SE coast of the UK, I can already sense Autumn creeping in first thing in the mornings. We’ve had this darned NW wind blowing for the last week, too. There is a hot sun occasionally felt between gusts of wind!
My apologies for not visiting your blog throughout July, but my month’s sabbatical from blogging (in order to do some serious editing) is now over, so will return to visiting you often.

      1. Just plain ordinary thunder and rain…every day for 2.5 weeks…lots of flooding. Today first sunny day & sunset.

  2. Darkness in the early morn where and when there used to be light infused sunrises…
    Colourfully smeared sunsets…
Autumn creeping in breathless and on tip-toes…
    Ah, gee. Play it again.
    Love, Sam.

  3. Love this, very creative! August is always a hot month, I could do with one of those fans to cool me right now. Still, I shouldn’t complain, I live in rainy England…haha!! 😀
