Q: There was a strong, negative reaction after you won your Oscar. In a recent interview for Elle U.K., you said, “As with anything difficult, eventually its purpose revealed itself, and I found it ultimately very liberating.” What was its purpose?
AH: Self-acceptance. If you’re not someone who has a natural and effortless love for yourself, it’s hard to let go of your desire to please other people, and that’s really not an ingredient for a happy life.

One very smart lady!
She is Sheri. 32 years old, fame, poise and intelligence.
Oy…yes, yes, yes…ok, she’s right. The voices are already shouting in my head – but I need coffee. 😉
Drink. Drink. Drink.
Thank you…big gulps
Beautiful people..have intelligent mind /brains and great looks ..both make them awesome . It is good to have them..
yes.
Does anyone really have a natural and effortless love for themselves?
Some closer to ideal than others.
But is it just that — an ideal? I wish it were that easy. Although it HAS gotten easier through the years…
That’s it. And I’m with you Claudia. It has gotten easier.

Remarkable young lady!!
She really is…
So timely for me…I’m reading Brene Brown’s The Gift of Imperfection and really looking at how I love myself and my sense of worthiness. I am leaning in to accepting myself more, caring about pleasing others less. Thanks, David!
Worthy goal Vicki….good luck in the pursuit…my gut tells me that you are further along than you think and further along than most of us…
It should be such an easy thing for us to love ourselves and yet….. lucky girl to have figured out the ‘secret sauce’ while still so young.
Yes. (Or, she has an excellent publicist but I’m not going there.)
Amen, sister. We keep getting opportunities to learn our lessons until we get them.
That is so true.

Brilliant. Simple. Not always simple to do, but the clarity is there. I agree with Sandy Sue…I am convinced that the Universe continues to present the lesson(s) until we can figure out how to learn what it is we need to know, change, do, etc. Love to see a young woman sharing this message.
Yes. Bonnie, your comment reminds me of:
“It may be that when we no longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work
and when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.”
