“Shirley and Jenny, two former circus elephants who hadn’t seen each other in 22 years were reunited at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. They recognized each other immediately, and their deep attachment is captured in this video of the reunion. The PBS show Nature published an update on Shirley and Jenny’s lives.” While this story is a bit stale, I was moved by the photograph, the video and the PBS update.

how lovely. i think of couple reunited after the end of a war. their love never has never kindled. it is the same for animals. indeed. today in both of your posts, i see giant animals teaching us about things we generally attribute to humans only. i see a pattern.
Beautiful moving moment. Agree Beth.
I love how her eyes are closed and her trunk is around her friend. Deep friendship doesn’t end, does it? I am glad you posted this as I had never seen it ~ what a lovely way to begin my day. Thanks.
Thanks Yvonne. All of this, picture, video, update – moved me too…
Tissue time! Why is it I turn into a blubbering idiot whenever I read (watch) this story? It is lovely!
It is!
And how lucky are we to witness such a moment? Beautiful, thank you!
MJ
Very lucky MJ.
Tears!
I was similarly moved Julie
Reminds me of a quote which I read recently: “Two friends met after many years. One said- I missed your smile a lot. But the other friend said- I missed my own smile a lot without you.
Love the quote. Thank you.
Beautiful story–beautiful quote, MissUnderstoodGenius.
Yes, to both. Love her quote.
Ok, kleenex please. How can this not infuse one with the belief that love endures, and friendship completes us as nothing else? I realize I’m mixing species here, and that arguably some species may not have this capacity, but this was too touching to nit-pick about realities.
YES. Just incredibly moving. Period.
Sooooo heartwarming! Head never seen this piece, David, but loved it. Friendship truly is a beautiful thing, whatever your species…. 🙂
Yes Lori. I stared at the gif. Over and over the same replay. Touched me the same way each time. Couldn’t seem to get enough.
Ditto!! I kept looking at the gif too and also showed it to my colleagues sitting around me…hard to believe for few but then thats how love is – totally misunderstood!
Totally “Misunderstood” – Got it!
Sweeeeet.
Exactly. Super Sweet
What a story!!! So touching and heartbreaking at the same time.
Years old. But I had never seen anything like it Maralee so I had to put it up. Glad you enjoyed it.
This is beautiful.
Thanks. I’m with you.
Amazing story, but they say an elephant never forgets…
It is, not these two that’s for sure.
Elephants are incredibly social and loving. I consider them one of my totem animals. I’ve got a ton of great elephant happiness on my pinterest board. http://www.pinterest.com/sandysuewyatt/pachyderms/
Wow, incredible pinterest board. Thanks for pointing me to it Sandy.

To good a squeeze not to pass along.
Thanks for sharing Lorian. It is too good not to pass along.
Thanks for the smile
I haven’t head about this story and I’m so happy that you shared it with us. We can learn wonderful lessons from animals. Love it.
I hadn’t heard about this story either Elisa. So powerful. Thank you. I loved it too.
Incredibly beautiful, heartwrenching… And another testament to the soul of these amazing creatures. May we as a species learn.
I’ve always wanted to visit this sanctuary — such a wonderful place.
