Was thinkin’ the same thing! There are many things that Gaga can worry about, but “being average” shouldn’t” be high on her list… 😉

Same comment. Lady Gaga is many things, average is not one of them!

I am afraid of being average too. What would it mean to be average?

I’m not ready to be average yet Ivon. Afraid of it actually. But I do think accepting being average (in certain things) brings peace of mind. However I tie learning to the thirst for being above average. And growth ceases when you stop learning. (in my opinion)

No she is not average or ordinary. But I don’t want to be average either!

Me too! Yet of all people, she’s afraid of being average. Amazing how we are all wired!

I know what she means. Ever since I was called “a good all-rounder” at my first school, I worried that might mean boringly average. The trouble is, I’m not as extrovert and courageous as her, and so have become a quiet eccentric.
Good for her — as ever, a promoter of discussion.

A quiet eccentric. Hmmmm. (Wondering if that is me?)

Love her or hate her, she certainly isn’t average!! 😉

That is the least of her worries…she’s got unique and exceptional in spades…but it’s interesting that she’d even have that thought. Goes to show that what we see on the outside is not always, perhaps, what is on the inside, of another…

Exactly my thoughts Bonnie. Here this woman, so unique, is worried about being average.

And… what’s so bad about being average? I can think of a whole lot of things that are far worse. I’m sure there are many who only wish they could be “average.”
Wrote and re-wrote this comment way too many times – time to listen to waves for 2 whole minutes again.

Laughing. Back to the waves, huh? I don’t necessarily disagree with you LaDona. As I shared with Ivon above, I do think accepting being average (in certain things) brings peace of mind. However I tie learning to the thirst for being above average. And growth ceases when you stop learning. (in my opinion)

I agree with LaDona.
I know it’s human nature to want to be better than the norm; than everyone else. People should just be who they are – so that people who are ‘average’ don’t feel inadequate. We shouldn’t be encouraged to think that we can only have an importance in life if we like something unique or ‘weird’. (and also when we start doing that, it becomes the average)… People think that validation is being recognised as different, instead of that you’re similar to others and that it’s all common human condition and experience.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this Hunter. I fully agree that being comfortable in your skin is important to acquiring peace of mind. I also agree that comparisons to others, envy – lead you down an unhealthy path. My reference and angle is personal growth – maximizing one’s own human potential – whether that’s doing good, being a great artist, excelling as a teacher, etc.

I doubt Lady Gaga will ever be considered as average.
