  1. I’m one of your biggest fans, yet I’m not sure I can get behind this one. I think there is too much suffering that one can’t attribute to resistance and/or an unwillingness to move forward. Though the quote is powerful and the meaning thought-provoking, I’m really wavering…

      1. I read three comments in a row on the opposing side (aka wrong side?) (I didn’t just say that did I?) Actually, I would have been aligned with you 10 years ago. Pendulum has the other way for me. Eckhart Tolle. US Andersen. Pick a guru…I’ve been enlightened. Can’t say that I’ve figured out how to let it flow, but I see. I see the wisdom and peace in it.

  2. There are extreme cases where suffering is caused by more than want. ex. starving children or something. But for most of us, I think I’d have to agree with this post. It’s caused because we keep clinging to the past or keeping wanting things we don’t have…

    1. Becca, thank goodness you showed up. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU. I was standing alone here with 3 ladies punching away. It’s you, me and the guru Maharaj. It’s a no brainer. Guru’s side wins. 🙂

    1. If I knew how to do a 3d image, I would celebrate. It was pure coincidence. As to raising the bar, I attribute that to Maharaj showing me the way…

      1. I will do that David. It is just that sometimes there is suffering that is so unjust. Although I truly believe that even so, we can choose how to respond and see the lesson to be learned. This is a bit of a tough one…

  3. Great post. Read this at 6am inluding comments blasting you…lol. I didnt comment cause I thought I was missing something between the quote & comments. Thought all day and there are too many examples of people with (health, business, family, faith, financial, etc.) suffering’s…once accepted their will & desire to change has given them a great life.

    1. Not a blast – just an inability to reconcile to reconcile the gist of the quote with the belief that God, not man (used generically), is ultimately in control. Or maybe I shouldn’t open this can of worms on someone else’s blog?

  4. Wow. That’s deep, dude. I have taken an internal vote, and I agree 85%. 15% of the time suffering is simply lack of adequate anesthesia (read loosely: external relief). Though it is desperately sought-after by many in the 85% category, the best anesthesia offers those no relief. 85% of suffering must be suffered to get past/work thru/grow from/flow/move past it. No need to resist the inevitable nor cling to the icky. Wait, I just did the math and came up with 100% suffering. Fortunately philosophy isn’t a math problem, so I can still believe that I agree 85%, right? I’ll just say that suffering could be 85% less if everyone could live the wisdom of Maharaj.
