Good morning David,
That looks about like how my vacation stress levels go too. Usually about 3 or 4 days before going back to work I start to stress about all the things I could have done and start asking myself did I get all the things I needed to get done and then comes the “ahhhhhhh, I don’t want to go back to work blues” and so on. Have a great week.

The answer to that is NOT to take a holiday 😉

However, I am still on the lookout for another job because i am miserable and bored here. Happy monday !!

I think you’ve pegged it just right. Even without a holiday, I remember feeling that way every Sunday – dreading Monday. And I liked my job!

We should have never ending holidays then! best for health! 😉

Sounds like a good time to cut yourself some slack, David. No worries, you’ll get back into your stride soon enough. Glad you had a few stressed-less days. Hope you have an encouraging week!

LOL. Good luck with that…

1 week vacation is not a vacation to me David. Less than 10 days is torture 🙂 I average around 30 days over the past 5 years with a 28 spot on the way 🙂 I love your technical posts.

I’m with you Michael. Have to take what I can get when I get it. I’m humbling and appreciate your feedback.

I have wondered in the past if these beginning and ending elevated stress levels are truly worth a vacation period!

My thoughts exactly….

I quit taking long vacations about a decade ago so I never have to go through that. Rather, I schedule a little mini-vacation each and every day. Keeps me relaxed and refreshed at all times. Of course, I’m lucky to live in San Diego where there is an abundance of mini-vacations just a few miles away from my home.

Hence the need to take longer vacations!
In May we did something that worked out well. My husband has a crazy NYT editor’s job (6 meetings every day) and I work alone at home freelance. We took one week, drove south to friends and stayed in a cottage at the water’s edge in VA, came home for a week — then two weeks off for me in AZ while he worked there. That was the best two weeks I’ve had in a long, long time. I came home completely refreshed….thanks to three factors: I did not touch a computer for five days; I had my assistant run interference when a client suddenly needed me while I was at the Grand Canyon; I spent 4 days at the GC in silence and nature. That helps!

Hi Caitlin. Thanks for dropping by. Yes. 5 day vacations don’t work. Your vacation and your disconnecting sounds Zen!
