Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and crotchety–
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light–
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.
— Mary Oliver, Why I Wake Early
Sunrise photos from this morning. 6:20 to 6:40 am. August 24, 2024. Cove Island Park. More pictures from this morning: Twilight here. Sunrise here.
I was starting to forget what the heat of the sun felt like; the light, and how much your spirit lifts when it does.
So true Dale!
I need a ‘love’ button
Lord, but that woman could write! Happy sunny Saturday, pal!
She could! Welcome back Lori!
Thanks pal!
Thank you, Kiki. It’s lovely to be missed. ❤️
My thoughts exactly, dear Lori. Miss you here (looks who’s talking…).
Thank you for the joy and gratitude dose this morning, Dave!!
WOW! Breathtaking photos. Great job David.
Thank you Melinda!
You’re getting better with photography every day. 🙂
Thank you! Always a lot to learn.
So much and I’ve forgotten my skills, it’s been so long. Once summer passes I’m going to take my Leica out for a spin. It’s 2 years old and I haven’t used it yet. Thank God I’m feeling better and I can’t wait to relearn my skills. I’ve been taking phots since I was in 9th grade.
Leica! La-de-da! It must take awesome pictures!!!! You must share when u take it for a spin again. Thanks!
My desired camera of all time was a Leica M but who can afford that and I’m not doing any safaris. This was my realistic dream camera and I can’t wait to use it. 🙂
Terrific!
Stunner. The words, the sunshine, the time it takes to capture it for all of us. Thank you DK.
Challenge. Tonight get the moon for us!
Thanks Cara. I’ll think about it.
Great photos, DK.
Thanks Anneli!
David! Those first two photos are especially incredible.
Also especially love this line:
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
Yes!
A poem worthy of these spectacular photos.
Well that’s a nice compliment! Thank you!
I bet you had this poem aside waiting for this amazing morning
Of course not. Total spontaneous! 🙂
Mary Oliver and David Kanigan having their moment. It doesn’t get any better than you two combined.
So many compliments in one day. I’m waiting for the “shoe to drop.”
I think Sawsan nailed it on this one David. Beautiful photos, and a beautiful poem to accompany them. Well done!
go Mary! and dk!
Thanks Beth!
Yummie 💞
Thanks Val!
stunning match, once more. I can’t get over how Mary Oliver – without fail – always touches the core of everything she chooses to write about.
And good morning to you and all out there!
Thank you Kiki. What is amazing is how she didn’t get more fanfare when she was alive!
sadly, that’s only too often the case.
Yes. Sadly true.
Beuatiful photographs, but you always take amazing moments… Mr.Sixty is being jealousy! And I am sure, Mary Oliver, if she were here and to see your photographs, I am sure she would have written this poem once again. Thank you dear David, have a nice day and new week, Love, nia
Awww. Beautiful Nia. Thank you!
