Notes:
- “Every day is hump day in Gujarat, India. The rural area is famous for its swimming camels. How did these desert creatures get a taste for the sea? It’s the only way they can reach the mangroves where they feed. These Kharai camels—as they’re known—can actually swim nearly two miles in seawater. Jat Noor Mohammed’s family has been breeding and caring for these animals for generations. But, as new industries and climate change begin to destroy the mangroves that sustain these camels, his livelihood is under threat.”

Will go to sleep a bit less stupid tonight, maybe should say a bit more informed…:) when I think of camels, I don’t think of India or swimming and mangroves. Thanks for sharing!

Wow!!! I lived in Gujarat for 12 years, and the best part of it was the camels. I never got used to seeing them on the roads and everywhere. They’re what I missed most when we moved away. But I never heard of these swimming camels. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
Btw, look up the Bactrian camels of Nubra Valley in Ladakh, relics of the Silk Route… Another fascinating camel story.
That is an amazing story. Thanks for sharing.
An interesting peek into a different kind of life from ours.
So true.
I like learning…cool video.
It is. Me too.
How cool is that?
Very!
And they too, are endangered. So terribly sad. I think I’ll throw out my computer and go bury my head in the sand. No, not really, but I’m sure you understand the sentiment.
So agree! I try not to think about that. Distressing.
Ahhhhhhhhh! A cool dip before the next desert crossing.
