I believe in movement. I believe in that lighthearted balloon, the world.

I believe in movement. I believe in that lighthearted balloon, the world. I believe in midnight and the hour of noon. But what else do I believe in? Sometimes everything. Sometimes nothing. It fluctuates like light flitting over a pond. I believe in life, which one day each of us shall lose. When we are young we think we won’t, that we are different. As a child I thought I would never grow up, that I could will it so. And then I realized, quite recently, that I had crossed some line, unconsciously cloaked in the truth of my chronology. How did we get so damn old? I say to my joints, my iron-colored hair.

  1. …” I had crossed some line, unconsciously cloaked in the truth of my chronology.”…what a statement, powerful writing…it is apparent that her mind is active and wise…This morning my body feels old, haven’t had that energizing morning kiss, yet 🙂 or that wake up walk…in which I’ll encounter deer, other dogs and turkeys, I bet…So glad, you are liking “Brainpickings” 🙂 I have, yet to read Sunday’s offerings.

      1. Maria at Brainpickings is so amazing. What a mind she has! I am so glad I found her, website and passed it on to you…she certainly has introduced me to some authors & artist I was not very knowledgeable about….I am not familiar with Patti Smith other than what you posted…

  2. Poetic, wise, and hitting me at the core. Can’t say I listen to much of her music, but Patti’s prose here is spellbinding. She grew up in a small southern NJ town near mine. How she clawed out of that small place and became so big is a testament to her large spirit.
