As sad as I am to see the “back side” of summer, I do love Autumn. A nip in the air, the rustle of the leaves as you walk across the lawn, bundles of mums and shocks of corn dotting the neighborhood landscape, ahh….
David, I saw your comment earlier this morning and have been pondering since – it seems to me that regret results when we look back and realize that we could have chosen otherwise. It’s an interesting thought and perhaps – what comes to mind – he realizes he did not savor the languid, slow, carefree pace that summer beckons (at least in my perspective)? And, that September ushers in colder climes, harsher times, more to do – is it possible that September is one of the most marked months in terms of transitions from one season to the next? So many things to contemplate with this. What do you think?

I’ve been thinking about your comment and this poem from Albert Camus:
What do you think he regrets here? Does the month of September evoke regret? And if so, why?

I took some time to reflect on your comment Bonnie. And here’s what I concluded:
1) Remind me never to share my shallow interpretations of poetry with you (in comparison with your insights) and humiliate myself.
2) I love where you landed. I simply have nothing else to add. Want a job reference to the NY Book Review?
