Canada-Day
Canada celebrates its 147th Birthday today. In a new poll, two-thirds of Canadians say they love their country and what it stands for. I’m among the fervently passionate 2/3rds. Happy Birthday Canada.

  10. I’m from Montreal, and I love my country and Quebec…, just hoping the next election will bring back Canada policies to what it is known for, open minded, social justice, caring for environment…yes I did not vote for Mr. Harper,,,:), so have a happy Canada Day!

      1. Yeah… India is strange. They say the concept of an Indian nationhood was born in 1857, really grew in the 1890’s and we became an independent country in 1947, after Pakistan and, what was to become Bangladesh, were cut away from India. In 1947, Bangladesh became part of Pakistan. It was called East Pakistan. In 1971, East Pakistan became Bangladesh. My father was there, during that war. My father was born in the part of India that became Pakistan in 1947!

  13. Some of my favorite imports (including you, David) are from Canada–Schwartz smoke meat sandwiches (and Schwartz the plumber :), poutine and Le Surcoeffe (I’m sure that’s not how it’s spelled; it’s a restaurant our friends take us to everytime we visit them in Montréal). Happy Canada Day!

  15. Happy Canada Day to you too! I’m a proud born-in-Quebec, living in the National Capital Canuck. We are excited to head out to the many festivities today–Serena Ryder is playing on the Hill! Oh, and those poll numbers don’t upset me–if you break it down it shows 43% of Qbcrs have a deep love for the nation, and another 27% feel “attached” to Canada. That’s pretty good actually. It is hard to poll on feelings/attitudes re: nationhood in QC. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

      1. It wasn’t meant in an unkind way…really! I just was wondering what brought you to the US. I know you grew up in Canada. Maybe I should have said…how is it that the US was lucky enough to steal you away from such a great country as Canada??? Sorry, David…no unkindness intended.
