I’m worried. I liked this. Don’t ask me how many times I hit go on this 8 second clip. Here’s how to pronounce “Synecdoche“. And, if the suspense is overwhelming and you want to know what “Synecdoche” means, the definition can be found here.
And if you are looking for a real word treat, check out this old post titled Words…. Loved this too.

That…is friggin hilarious.
The real clue to how to pronounce this word is contained in the movie title, “Synecdoche, New York.” Which is awesome, incidentally.
Kamela, you kind soul. I knew that we were kindred spirits. I’m glad the first comment was squarely aligned with me. I loved it. And I laughed. (mostly at myself) And you’re going to have to let me in on the clue. I saw the movie. Don’t get the connection.
The title is a pun on Schenectady, New York, which if you know how to pronounce (I’m from New Jersey, so I do ;), sounds like synecdoche. (Sin-EC-doh-kee, if your readers were wondering… 😉
Thanks for the color…
Thanks a lot!!! Now I’m worried too.
We should be (very worried) 🙂
Where did you come up with this? I have never heard this word before and not sure if I would understand if I heard someone say it. Fun though 🙂
Laughing (still)
LOL … I’m not sure I could listen to it often enough to ever figure out how to pronounce that. The next question is …can you use it in a sentence?
Catchy though, huh?!
Is this for real? hahaha It worries me too.
Looks like there’s a growing community of us Meikah….

🙂 Glad you enjoyed it Sandy
LOL…I wasn’t even close to pronouncing it correctly.
English was never your strong suit Bro
Great way to teach ESL – take our most ridiculously written words and pronounce them similarly. My understanding is that this was the genesis of these videos…TGIF..
🙂 Didn’t know that. Learned something today. TGIF.
Lord knows what this guy would do with onomatopoeia! My Friday challenge–use synecdoche in a casual conversation today. 😉
I hope you had a chance to work it in. And I’m confident you’d get the “who’s the loon” looks. 🙂
What? My head is exploding. I had to run to the definition to find out how to really say it, or that calm, evil voice would play in my head all day. Evil David, Evil.
Laughing. Head is just spinning too…
Laughing…just laughing. Thanks….!! ;D
Good!
