Hal David passed away on Saturday. David was a lyricist and partnered with music composer Burt Bacharach to produce some of the most memorable and long lasting hits of our generation including “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head“, “This Guy’s in Love with You“, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again“, “Do You Know the Way to San Jose“, “Walk On By“, “What the World Needs Now Is Love“, “I Say a Little Prayer“, “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me“, and “One Less Bell to Answer“.
In memory of Hal David, here’s Dionne Warwick singing “Walk on By.”

When I was younger I used to sing this in the shower..I had a whole Hal David repertoire though i was unaware at the time that all this incredible music was attributable to him. An amazing talent,,
I didn’t know he wrote them either…not that it would have mattered back then. Their music certainly has stood the test of time.
Thanks David. Such great music, and David is one of the few people who can get me to listen to the lyrics!
I’m not a lyric listener either Michael. All melody for me. I’m with you on this pair though…
Thanks for the info…I never knew all of those amazing songs were written by him! RIP.
Neither did I. Saw it on a program last night. Incredible…
Those were such lovely songs, bring back childhood memories. They made a great team.
Yes, I completely agree…
Thank you for sharing! I imagine I will be singing Raindrops for the rest of the day under a bright blue sky.
Funny. I was humming “Walk on By” most of the day. 🙂
I had no idea… What a lifetime of accomplishments!! Thanks so much for sharing.
Nor did I. Amazed that all of this amazing work came from this duo…
Amazing talent! I was similarly surprised when I read Marvin Hamlisch’s obit–had NO idea that he was responsible for so much of the music that I’ve enjoyed over the years….
And I didn’t know that Hal David’s name was Marvin Hamlisch. Another lesson for me today. Thanks Lori.
Oh no–we’re two ships in the night, David. Hal and Marvin are two different guys–musical geniuses both, but separate entities. Hamlisch died recently as well….
No, Lori, your ship was on course. My dinghy hit the rocks.
I loved this song. Still do. Aren’t we lucky to have had people like Hal David and Burt Bacharach to give us these memorable songs – still classics after so many years! One that I liked even more was “Anyone Who Had a Heart” (by the same composers and sung by Dionne Warwick).
I believe “Anyone Who Had a Heart” was released in the early ’60’s. I was a piker back then so I didn’t recall this tune.
Who said I was around when it first came out?
Okay, okay, so I was…..
I figured if I waiting long enough, you would own up. 🙂
I’m too honest for my own good, but it’s not fair of you to put these oldies on your blog. It’s like asking a woman her age when you invite comments on them. Like trick questions.
ahhhh yes. I figured it would only be a matter of time with finger pointed back at me. Good one. 🙂
