Guess.What.Day.It.Is?

Her Birthday!

More on Sawsan here.

And as a lover of Sparrows, this Sawsan is for you.

Sparrow is everywhere and always will be. The birds scatter. Her crying perplexes them. Yet who comes hopping back first, cocking her dun-colored head? Of course, the sparrow. The great avian improvisor. The one who makes her nest in cold chimneys and tailpipes and ruined foundations, the one who has learned to concede the ideal. And for this reason, she is everywhere. Sparrow is everywhere and always will be.

  1. Happy Birthday, dear Sawsan! You have enriched all of our lives through your presence in this blog!

  2. Wishing you the happiest of birthdays Sawsan. And… I just re-read your answers and was reminded, once again, what a thoughtful, caring and loving human being your are. Thanks for including the link DK.

    1. Thank you, Louise! I appreciate your kind words. This was 6 years ago. So much has happened in 6 years.

    1. This has been a very delightful day, so far! Thank you, Mimi. Now it’s time for dinner and cake. Homemade Fettuccine Alfredo, then Pistachio Tiramisu. It doesn’t get any more delightful than that.

  3. Thank you, David!

I can almost hear her little heart beating. That’s how perfect this Sparrow photo is.
I love Sparrows because they are quietly everywhere. Like blood in our bodies, quietly everywhere. They say that in extreme silence, one can hear the blood moving in their body. Same thing with Sparrows. Even when they’re silent, I can almost always hear their wings’ delicate flap or their teeny tiny feathers move. Something about them resembles whispers. I’m at my happiest when I can tune my ears to their tender existence.
    You made my day, Sir!

  4. Happy belated birthday, my dear Sawsan! I sent you an e-card for TODAY, and now I read that it was not yesterday, nor today, but already on the 9th? Could you clarify that for us, please?
I‘m so happy that at one stage you entered my online-life and I‘m always in awe (and a little fear) when I hear from you. You are so fierce! Always were, always will be. But I mostly appreciate you for your heart, feelings, your sense of justice, your love of the same things I love too. You are one extra-ordinary woman! Happy days to come, dear friend. Kiki

  5. And a big thank you to Dave, he who brought us all together, with his writing, then photography, his wisdom and many other talents, we won‘t go into now.
That sparrow photo is wonderful. Over here though, sparrows are anything but quiet,. it‘s more their insistant ‚chatter‘, their relentless chirping and shameless sitting on every table with somebody eating at it, demanding their share of food…. I love them because they are so small and ‚unfancy‘, but I do know ppl who don‘t care for them. Not ppl I love though!
