We lived in our bodies as in a constant state of emergency. We wore them out trying to either satisfy or exhaust them. We never succeeded in losing ourselves in sleep or pleasure. We were vigilant and wakeful. We always knew what time it was. We were forever trying to fill or close some gap.
— Rachel Cusk, Parade: A Novel (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, June 18, 2024)
The reviews of Cusk as writer are stunning. This book’s reviews, however, leave me wondering if it lives up to her. What say you of it, DK?
I have a fan boy of Rachel Cusk. Big Time. Love her work, have read most of it. And it’s impossible for me not to cheerlead every book and every author given the amount of effort that was put into it. And there were certainly highlights in this book. However, I found this book to be a mess. I would HIGHLY DISCOURAGE my friends from buying this one. Read this review and it says it all: https://readwise.io/reader/shared/01j04jbwkrva3wv6afa1b3z7w0

Well
If Cusk’s opinion matters, then mine does too.
Thank you, Sir.
Yours matters more!
Now I want everyone’s answers!
I need to learn from you, Sawsan…
Hmmmmmm
I’d guess you do, too! 😆
Well, I wouldn’t describe it exactly that way! 🙂
😂
I need to learn from you ❤️
I’ve not succeeded! 😭
Exactly I am with Sawsan…. Thank you dear David and Sawsan, Love, nia
Thanks Nia!
*😬…Sooo, how bout them Oilers?…*
Yes! Big Game tonight!
The book may not win raves, but this quote resonates – yes?🥴
Oh, with me, 100% in line with what I feel and do (I’m afraid). Yes Mimi, agree.
Rachel Cusk may be “interesting” but her proclamations oppose everything I adhere to in my personal philosophy and behavior. Whenever the dark side is explored, the results are no mystery. [why promote this book?]
I am a fan of her work, but not this book. I also wish that my personal behavior differed from what she suggests in this passage, but I’m afraid that’s not the case. I’m trying, but not there yet.
