What you eat represents your social status, not your love. The poor eat simply to end their hunger. But when you can buy more than food, your hunger doesn’t end. You hunger for approval, for something special, for exclusive experiences.

Movie Review: ‘Hunger’ movie review” A well-done exploration of the politics of fine dining served with stellar performances” (The Hindu.com, April 14 2023)
Clearly a must see!
I enjoyed it. A movie for the senses!

I can still wax eloquent about the shaved steamed baby asparagus wrapped in seagrass (perfect!), but since then, the closest I’ll have ever come to some form of fine dining is just before I and my tall chair went ass over teakettle in a first-time hibachi restaurant when Chef unexpectedly torched the entire grill surface up to the ceiling. (The ensuing laughter was as *fine* as it gets!) I’ve no doubt these food movies are mostly truely indicative of fine chef-ing, so I’m surprised if they don’t put off many budding chefs, you know?
Laughing. Ass over tea kettle. Was it recorded?!
>
How i wish! I’ve always hoped the restaurant was recording, at least.
Not sure I want to associate good food with humiliation and cruelty. I LOVE food and love to cook…just for fun. When I grow up I want to be Chef José Andrés!

Me too!

Hmmm, I will watch it and then will let you know. I’m curious as to what the message is.
And No, what I eat represents what I love.
It’s 2023, and saying ‘status’ feels so wrong!!!!!
Hmmmmm
Loved it!
So Glad!
another one I can’t wait to see!
Good!
I don’t know, it seems like it will be depressing… Great quote selection, though.
Happy Ending!!!
I’m intrigued. Into the queue it goes….
If you’re looking for good movies about chefs and food, don’t overlook Jiro Dreams of Sushi!
Will do Todd. Thanks!
Interesting! Thank you DK
Hope you enjoy it!
Am I the only one who is gutted by this trailer? Hunger is a terrible thing (not that I know hunger personally).
This is show, humiliation, degradation… I love cooking, I invited guests twice this weekend, for me it’s being together w/ppl I love, sharing food and talking about whatever occupies our lives. It’s never a show off, but our lives are better for it.
Films like this leave me sad, even though I appreciate the visual fireworks. But I love food too much to see ppl being reduced to nothingness in order to have a ‘culinary highlight’ on a shiny plate.
You hit the point of the film head on.
SO TRUE.
