Monday Morning Wake-Up Call

I do not live happily or comfortably
with the cleverness of our times.
The talk is all about computers,
the news is all about bombs and blood.
This morning, in the fresh field,
I came upon a hidden nest.
It held four warm, speckled eggs.
I touched them.
Then went away softly,
having felt something more wonderful
Than all the electricity of New York City.

Notes:

  • We’ll ignore the consequences of touching/picking up bird eggs from a nest… 🙂

  2. So much more wonderful.

This reminded me: when I was around 11 or 12 I picked up a baby raccoon in a park 😅 Lucky for me the mama wasn’t around… But I still think about that raccoon. I hope I didn’t hurt it by putting my scent on it…
