7/ 3/ 54. I keep myself going with various kinds of dope: books, written and read, dreams, hopes, crossword puzzles, the sentimentality of friendships, and real friendships, and simply routine.

It’s with us the same, except the crossword puzzles.
We read her diaries/notebooks too and funnily enough we underlined these words as well.
Keep well

Miss Beauty, appears to be deep in contemplation…/// PH that is how she kept being not polluted by tv I think she was born in early 1920’s so she was a child in the depression, listening to the Radio (1940’s tv’s started showing up for sale) & a young women during WWII..(I’m sure she visited the Library often!!) .I read that about 12 million TV’s were in homes by some point in the early 1950’s…also I think that perhaps those from Northern climates with long winters, when folks in the time period of 1950’s through the mid 1970’s were better read, knew how to play cards, played scrabble a lot so they are good at spelling, how to get along with others (large families) & trapped by blizzards, teachers instilled good work habits as did Mother’s and Father’s & Sunday school teachers, too…I’ve observed that folks from that time period seems to have a wider vocabulary – I attribute that to lots of family communication, book reading, other factors & perhaps, either only one tv station or no tv in the home…my dear husband and his brother used to watch the test pattern because tv was exciting they had one channel that was shared by two different networks & broadcasted in the afternoon & early evening…of course they loved it when their dad read them Ivanhoe…We were the 1st family in the neighborhood to have a color tv in 1969 & man that July day when Man First Walked on the Moon our Living room was packed!!! I was a young girl, one brother was an older teenager & already a hippie (rip), the way older brother had been home from Vietnam for a few years… So I think that PH is such a good writer because she expanded her mind with pursuits that were Enriching…
