Walking. With Tu Fu.

53° F.  5:59 a.m. Thursday, October 21st.

Cove Island Park walk @ daybreak.

534 (almost) consecutive mornings. Like in a row.

I walk. Sort of.

One hour before sunrise. Deep in the Twilight Zone.

When One just can’t leave well enough alone, One pays. Advil PM & Tylenol PM have worked for 10+ years. Man Child thinks he could save a few bucks with Amazon’s private label “Basic Care Sleep Aid” tablets.  Teeny, tiny, blue egg shell pills. I mean tiny. How much damage can they possibly do?

And so here we are.

Think of your first step after exiting the Salt & Pepper Shaker @ Six Flags Great Adventure.

But it’s a full 2 hours later.

World is spinning.

Stomach begs Mercy!

Each.Step.Must.Be.Deliberate.

Easy does it DK. Easy does it.

The head and the body not of this earth. Not on this earth.

I take 89 snaps that morning, 30% less than the normal daily output.

And it’s this one that sticks. I mean, easily, running away — 88 better shots that morning, including several of a spectacular sunrise, painting the Cove in a thin leaf golden wrapper.

But, it’s this one that lingers.  A breakwall, giant rocks, glistening in the moon light.  The entire landscape bathed moonlight. The entire cove. The entire Long Island Sound. Is this real?

Tu Fu @ 750 A.D.: “Moonlight flows on the…I am like a gull / Lost between heaven and earth.”

Oh, there’s no doubt that I was lost.

But this gull was grounded.

Lost in Amazon’s ‘Basic Care Sleep Aid’ Bazooka pills and God knows where.

Tu Fu and you.

Lost.

At least I’m lost in fine company.

  1. Guess you won’t be listening the the Man Child in the future – and you can “learn” him the lesson that cheaper ain’t better – especially when you are an apparently lightweight! Seriously, though, I’m sorry you went through all that.

  2. Powerful photo…with a powerful message. Please, clear your mind and body–flush out those teeny moon blue teeny pills,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  3. We can’t leave well enough alone, seduced into thinking that there’s something better out there…you have no idea how good it’s going to feel when you stop banging your head against the wall – either with frustration or the ultimate awareness that what we have is good enough. And the photo? It beckons …
