  1. This reminds me of Mawi Asgedom, full first name is Selamawi. Author of the book Of Beetles and Angels. I translated as he met with new refugee kids. He always gave away free copies to every student in every school he visited. He lives just outside Chicago. Great man and I don’t think I ever cried tears of pain and joy and pride as I did when I listened to him tell his story the first time.

  3. Thank you for posting this. We as a species have learned to forget the rest of the world’s battles and terrors and heartbreak and pain and hopelessness. We seem increasingly unable or unwilling to see anything beyond that which affects us directly. Compassion and kindness are becoming meaningless, even politicized words. This is a beautiful, deeply human picture. I hope this family is able to heal and find peace in being together again.
