Resolutions. Day 1.

Today I want
to resolve nothing.

I only want to walk
a little longer in the cold…

Kim Addonizio, from “New Year’s Day” in Tell Me

Notes:

  • Inspired by Lucille Clifton, “I am running into a new year” (via Read a Little Poetry): i am running into a new year / and the old years blow back / like a wind / that i catch in my hair / like strong fingers like / all my old promises and / it will be hard to let go / of what i said to myself / about myself…

    1. Yes, captures it for me…so simple and yet… Hammarskjold captures it:

“In the point of rest at the center of our being, we encounter a world where all things are at rest in the same way. Then a tree becomes a mystery, a cloud a revelation, each person a cosmos of whose riches we can only catch glimpses. The life of simplicity is simple, but it opens to us a book in which we never get beyond the first syllable.”

  1. Being ill in bed for 2 nights and nearly 2 days now, I can only agree 🙂 (And NO, it’s not the too much partying, no chance for that – and not too much eating and drinking but a rather nasty fall and its consequences, plus a cold attacking the already weakened body).

Happy joyful and less stressed New Year to you David and your readers. You are a fine bunch of good people.

  2. I wish my landscape looked like that at the moment. It’s endless days of greyness and rain, although I’ve still been going out in it and meeting other crazy solitary walkers. It was raining so hard yesterday that I almost collided with another dogwalker (a Frenchman I think, by his accent) and we had such a fit of laughing at each other, and the rain, and the two of us being in a dream and not being able to see out of our glasses. It was a wonderful, spontaneous moment. It’s still making me laugh today, thinking about it.
Wishing you a very happy New Year, and sending many apologies for having been so often absent from your wonderful blog of late. Not enough hours, and all that, whilst juggling writing, singing, and family. I hope to do better this month.
