- Quote: Thank you Rob @ The Hammock Papers
- More to this story – Amazing Facts by Doug Batchelor with the Beginning of Wisdom. “Abdul Kassem Ismael (A.D. 938 to 995) became Grand Vizier of Persia. Legend has it that the avid reader was so enthralled with literature and learning that he never left home without his personal library. The 400-camel caravan carried 117,000 books and must have been more than a mile long! Nevertheless, Ismael’s camel-drivers were also librarians, each responsible for the books on his camel, and could locate any book almost immediately because the animals were trained to walk in alphabetical order.”

i totally get this and love it and would have my mobile library do the same if i were the grand vizier. i love books, love alphabets, and camels…..well – perhaps i would employ a long line of friendly and clever donkeys.

And right away we assume that the camels put themselves into that order before starting on their walk. 😉

Fantastic! Love this!!! And you’ll enjoy to know, I had the privilege of trimming the hooves of a ZEBRA the other day. Payment? One set of reindeer antlers :)) :)) for real — they grace my living room, and I’m looking at them right now :)) Dawn

The camels that carry the salt blocks from Northern Mali will refuse to move if they are not loaded in exactly the same way each morning.

That would be me in a perfect life!
Actually, I have found a GWDII camel photo on your twitter and on the iPad you could only see the face with the eyes left and right and it was so utterly funny that I was disappointed to see the ‘whole hog’ when I clicked on it. Now I searched for a bit on your blog but couldn’t find it…. Never mind. This was interesting fun!
